Man Utd Legend Criticises Wenger’s Use Of Arsenal Maestro

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has criticised Arsene Wenger’s usage of Arsenal star Mesut Ozil, saying that to use him on the left wing, as Wenger has been doing in recent weeks, is a waste of him as a talent, as reported by the Independent.

He also questioned the sensibility of his midfield selections, and says that it is incredibly clear to everyone that Wenger requires a talented holding midfielder who is specialised in that role, but the manager himself has not dealt with that.

Scholes’s most fierce criticism came against the use of Ozil, who won the World Cup with Germany this summer.

Ozil’s arrival last season was heralded as a changing point for Arsenal, when they could finally compete with the other Premier League big guns financially.

He has failed to impose himself on the league, however, and there has been some criticism. Scholes, however, believes that how Wenger is using him is all wrong.

The former Man Utd man said: “I admired Mesut Ozil as a player at Real Madrid but it is no use playing him wide.

“He is not interested in defending and he needs to be in the centre, among good quality players who get the best out of him.

“He has that languid style which makes it look like he isn’t trying.

“I am sure that isn’t the case but he is struggling to find his form and he is too good a player to waste.”

Arsene Wenger Blasts Arsenal Fans For Treatment Of £42m Star

Arsenal  boss Arsene Wenger has blasted his club’s fans for their treatment of his £42 million man Mesut Ozil in recent months, saying that there is nothing to blame a single member of the team for, never mind one individual getting repeatedly picked on by the fans, as reported by the Daily Mirror.

Ozil has become something of a scapegoat at the club, especially after the loss against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

However, this is the only game that the Gunners have lost competitively since the 1st of April, a record stretching back into last season, and Wenger feels as though it is excessive to blame the entire team for the perceived failure, never mind a single player.

Wenger said: “Why should he be a scapegoat? For what? We’ve lost one game since April 1. Let’s be realistic.

“We’ve come out of a very difficult preparation period with decisive games. We had very difficult games against Besiktas. I don’t know a scapegoat for what?

“They should not be concerned and just support him. I understand that you want your best players always to make the difference in every single game and we all go through period where we are a bit less good. You help.

“A club is a union between players, supporters and directors. You have to be united and sometimes go through periods together where it goes a bit less well.

“It’s a bit unfair because I believe that our offensive talents on Tuesday night were not in their best condition, and they couldn’t express that talent.

“On the other hand it’s post-World Cup. He came back on August 11. You know it takes a few months for them to get back to their best, that can happen.”

Ozil was a significant signing for the north London club, representing a new era in which they can match their rivals financially. Despite this, they have entered the new season with clear weaknesses in defence and midfield.

Arsene Wenger Credits Divine Intervention For £16m Arsenal Signing

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said that were it not for the invitation of the Pope to referee a charity match on deadline day, the north London club would not have agreed a £16 million deal to bring him to the Emirates Stadium at the end of the transfer window, as reported by the Daily Star.

Welbeck’s move to Arsenal was confirmed in swift fashion on the final day of the window, with Wenger busy in Rome, refereeing a charity game that had been arranged by Pope Francis.

Had it not been for his absence, Wenger would have only looked for a season long loan deal for the former Manchester United striker, with the club intending to secure an option to buy him at the end of the season.

With Spurs also sniffing around Welbeck, there is no guarantee that Arsenal would have managed to secure the striker. Welbeck showed his talent on Monday by scoring two goals for the England national side.

Wenger said: “If I had not travelled that day, Welbeck would not be here. I’ll explain that a bit later.

“If I stayed at home, Welbeck would not be here today. That’s the truth.”

“Meeting the Pope was an experience I did not want to miss.

“I am a Catholic and it was an invitation I accepted a long time ago and on top of that it was a game for peace and multi-religion understanding.

“He is a great person to meet because he shows humility and is available to meet for everybody.

“He is a supporter of San Lorenzo in Argentina. He is a football fan. You cannot be born in Argentina and not be a football fan.”
