Arsenal star Per Mertesacker has admitted that he and Mesut Ozil have repeatedly tried to tempt Sami Khedira in making the switch to the north London side in the near future, as reported by the Daily Star.
In a wide ranging question and answer session with the gigantic defender, Mertesacker said that he and his compatriot have tried to tempt their international teammate into making a long mooted move.
Khedira’s contract at Real Madrid is running down, and there seems little chance of him agreeing a new deal with the Spanish giants, considering how long the saga over his contract has gone on for.
His availability in the summer has found several clubs sniffing around him since the end of last season, with many hoping to snatch a bargain for the World Cup winner.
However, Mertesacker is hopeful that Arsenal have the edge, and revealed that him and his fellow German Ozil have tried to win Khedira round.
He said: “I’m up for more quality Germans to [join] the club.
“Ozil and I spoke with Khedira a few times to join Arsenal. His contract is up next summer.”
Manchester City’s interest in Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has apparently increased, with the club likely to make a move for the World Cup winner in January, as reported by fichajes.net.
The German international has struggled to settle at the Emirates Stadium since his big money move from Real Madrid, but this has failed to put off City manager Manuel Pellegrini, who wants to bring him in.
This is with the intention of adding to City’s creativity in midfield, with only David Silva capable of playing in the playmaking role for the Blues.
Ozil’s addition would add a certain level of invention that is currently missing from City’s squad.
While it remains to be seen whether Arsene Wenger would be willing to sanction the sale of Ozil, reports have suggested that the midfielder is not entirely happy about his situation with the Gunners, with Ozil reportedly complaining about being played out wide.
Manchester City are looking to make a shock £40 million move for Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil, as reported by Spanish outlet fichajes.net.
Ozil has reportedly been targeted by German giants Bayern Munich for a January move, but it now seems as though a Premier League rival are set to put pressure on Arsenal about a possible move.
It would come as something of a surprise if the Premier League champions were to move for Ozil, given that the player has never hit the heights that he has in the past since making the switch to the Emirates Stadium.
Ozil has been roundly criticised since the start of the season for failing to impose himself on matches, and with the World Cup winner out injured until January and Bayern lurking, some feel he might have played his last match for Arsenal.
However, it might now be City where he reemerges, with Pellegrini said to be lining up a £40 million bid for the player.
