Revealed: Arsenal Manager Wenger’s Tactical Fear

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is concerned over his side’s tactics, with the belief that his team are not threatening enough from set pieces, as reported by the Daily Star.

Despite having a huge 15 corners against north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, Wenger’s side did not convert from any of them, which has caused the French manager consternation.

In fact, Arsenal have failed to score from a single corner since the start of the new season, which Wenger is not particularly happy about.

Wenger said: “It’s a concern. We have lots of room for improvement and we need to do that quickly.

“If you go anywhere in the world and have 15 corners against you, you will concede because they should be so difficult to defend.

“I have a lot of talent at my disposal but Tottenham are a very tall side.

“Players like Jan Vertonghen and Younes Kaboul are very tall and they defended well.”

Saturday’s game saw Arsenal go behind against their fierce rivals, with Nacer Chadli bagging to put the White Hart Lane side into the lead.

However, a late equaliser from Alex Oxlade Chamberlain levelled things up at 1-1, and despite pressure from Arsenal, the game finished as a draw.

Wenger now leads his side into an exceptionally difficult game against Chelsea, who have not yet lost this season.

Arsenal Boss On Spurs: We Have The Mental Edge

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has stated that his side have the advantage of history when they face off against Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend, as reported by the Daily Star.

Saturday sees the first north London derby of the new season, which takes place at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal’s fierce rivals Spurs have not finished above the Reds in the Premier League since 1995, and have only managed to win one game away from home against Arsenal in that period of time as well.

This is why Wenger believes his side has the mental advantage, because history is on their side.

Wenger said: “For me a competition is always a new start. The next game is important.

“After that, the history can make you feel a bit stronger, yes, but let’s not be fooled.

“What’s important is how well we turn up with our performance tomorrow.”

Both clubs have struggled to get their fluidity together since the start of the season, although Arsenal did manage a 3-0 win against the previously undefeated Aston Villa last weekend at Villa Park.

Arsenal still lack star striker Olivier Giroud, although Danny Welbeck scored his first goal for his new side since his £16 million transfer last weekend.

Arsenal Boss Hints That Signings Could Still Occur Soon

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has suggested that his side could still yet make signings, on the assumption that the injuries that his team have suffered turn out to be worse than the club expects them to be, as reported by the Daily Star.

Wenger has seen his side start the new season in somewhat decent form, but Tuesday night’s clash against Borussia Dortmund spoke for some realities surrounding his squad. Depleted by the injury to Mathieu Debuchy, a makeshift back line offered little in the way of resistance to Dortmund’s formidable attacking line, and the north London club slumped to a 2-0 loss.

With Debuchy injured, Arsenal had to turn to youngster Hector Bellerin to fill in at right back. While Bellerin was not particularly to blame for the loss, injuries elsewhere make the club’s options look increasingly poor, and many expect them to look into the free transfer market to aid the squad.

It is not as simple as that, according to Wenger, who said: “You cannot rule anything out because it depends on how long the injuries are and how many you have.

“At the moment, we are not in that need.”
