Liverpool Legend Pans £42.5M Arsenal Star

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has criticised Arsenal’s midfield star Mesut Ozil for his recent poor form, and denied the idea that this has come about because he has repeatedly been used out wide, as reported by the Daily Star.

Ozil joined the Gunners last summer from Real Madrid, making the switch for £42.5 million in 2013.

His arrival was heralded as a significant acquisition by many in the media, with the player thought to have been one of Europe’s top stars in his role.

However, he has never truly hit the heights expected of him, with the player struggling to replicate his previous return at other clubs.

His display against Chelsea on Sunday, in particular, was poor, and there were some who thought the problem was his position on the pitch.

Despite being an attacking midfielder, Arsene Wenger has tended to play him on the left wing.

However, Carragher feels that this isn’t to blame, saying on Twitter: “Any Ozil apologists who talk about him playing wide remember he played central last season and was poor.

“As I said at the start of the season Arsenal good but not great through the spine of the team.”
