Manchester United’s record breaking signing Angel Di Maria has heaped praise on his teammate David De Gea after yesterday’s stunning performance in the club’s 2-1 win against Everton at Old Trafford, as reported by the Daily Express.
The Argentina international moved to the Premier League shortly before the close of the summer transfer window.
His transfer fee of £59.7 million was a record outlay for British club, with the former Real Madrid man considered to be in prime form in the season before his transfer.
Despite a great display against Everton in Sunday’s game, Di Maria was insistent that it was De Gea who deserved the man of the match award.
Di Maria said: “I think David is the guy the who deserves this reward rather than myself.
“He saved us throughout the game and particularly towards the end and the penalty as well so not only him but the rest of the side deserve this.”
Man Utd have won their last two ties in the league, with the win against Everton following a similar 2-1 victory against West Ham.
Both games have, however, been characterised by staunch defending in the later stages of the game to ensure the result.
