Liverpool Legend Pans £42.5M Arsenal Star

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has criticised Arsenal’s midfield star Mesut Ozil for his recent poor form, and denied the idea that this has come about because he has repeatedly been used out wide, as reported by the Daily Star.

Ozil joined the Gunners last summer from Real Madrid, making the switch for £42.5 million in 2013.

His arrival was heralded as a significant acquisition by many in the media, with the player thought to have been one of Europe’s top stars in his role.

However, he has never truly hit the heights expected of him, with the player struggling to replicate his previous return at other clubs.

His display against Chelsea on Sunday, in particular, was poor, and there were some who thought the problem was his position on the pitch.

Despite being an attacking midfielder, Arsene Wenger has tended to play him on the left wing.

However, Carragher feels that this isn’t to blame, saying on Twitter: “Any Ozil apologists who talk about him playing wide remember he played central last season and was poor.

“As I said at the start of the season Arsenal good but not great through the spine of the team.”

Liverpool Legend Dismisses Any Arsenal PL Title Hopes And Questions Mental Strength

Liverpool hero Jamie Carragher has dismissed any hopes of Arsenal winning the Premier League title this season, with the player also saying that they have fallen far behind Chelsea after a summer of transfer business, as reported by the Daily Mail.

The Liverpool legend has also said that the club’s failure to see out games means that they are unlikely to truly challenge for the Premier League crown any time soon.

Arsenal and Chelsea were both considerably far behind Liverpool and Manchester City when the Premier League ended last season, but a sensational summer spend from the Stamford Bridge club has seen them installed as early season favourites for the title.

The contrast between Arsenal and Chelsea can be seen most heavily in their striking acquisitions. While Chelsea have brought in Diego Costa for £32 million, Arsenal scrambled to sign Danny Welbeck on deadline day. While Welbeck is a good player, he did not have the record of Costa prior to his arrival.

Carragher said: “I said start of the season, I don’t think Arsenal will win the title. The way I think of Arsenal is similar to Chelsea, one finished third one finished fourth. They probably spent similar money in the summer.

“Why didn’t Arsenal get [Diego] Costa. Danny Welbeck might be a good signing. They need a left back, Chelsea go to Atletico Madrid and get Filipe Luis. They just do what they need to do.

“They don’t look as if they know how to see a game out. As soon as it went 2-2 I don’t fancy Arsenal to get a winner, I fancied City to win the game and they almost did.

“It’s not just a physical thing with Arsenal, it’s a mental thing and that even could be more important.”
