28-Year-Old Man Utd Star: “The Best Is Yet To Come”

Manchester United star Wayne Rooney has celebrated his tenth year at Old Trafford by declaring that he can see himself improving from here, and that he can achieve more than he has before, as reported by the Daily Mirror.

Rooney was sent off in Man Utd’s 2-1 win against West Ham, lashing out at Stuart Downing.

His dismissal could have cost the Red Devils the game, with West Ham pressing late on for an equaliser, but they ultimately picked up the three points.

Rooney first moved to Man Utd ten years ago, signing from Everton in 2004.

Then he was only a raw talent, who was highly regarded in the game. In the decade since, he has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most consistent stars.

There has been criticism of him since, however, and Rooney felt the need to clarify that he can get even better.

He told the Sunday Times: “I still believe I can get better as a footballer. In the next three to five years you will see me as a different player. The next two or three, I feel these could be the best years of my career.

“I’m a better footballer than I was. When I was younger I was raw, there were moments when I did spectacular stuff, but now overall my play is better.”

Rooney was appointed the captain of Man Utd and England earlier this season.

28 Year Old Man Utd Hero Admits To Man Utd Defensive Struggles

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has panned the club’s disappointing display against Leicester City at the weekend, and admitted that the defence struggled against long balls from Leicester City.

This saw the team fall to a 5-3 loss against the recently promoted club despite leading 3-1 going into the latter stages of the game, as reported by the Daily Express.

The England international saw his side concede four goals without reply, losing a game that had seemed exceptionally in their hands before Rafael gave away a penalty against Jamie Vardy.

A strike from legendary midfielder Estaban Cambiasso then brought the game level at 3-3, before the aforementioned Vardy broke through the lax Man Utd defence to put the Foxes ahead.

With the Reds pushing for an equaliser, hoping to stave off at least some of the embarrassment, Vardy then broke through again, before being brought down by Tyler Blackett.

Leonardo Ulloa converted the resulting penalty, which saw Blackett get sent off for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity.

Rooney was not happy with the display, and said: “We are all really disappointed, especially after going 3-1 up.

“We should have seen the game off and we should have kept the ball better, but we didn’t do that, we made a few mistakes and it has cost us.

“Leicester played a lot of long balls and we struggled a little bit [to cope] with those, but overall it wasn’t good enough as a team.

“We played some good stuff at times and scored some great goals, but we made too many mistakes and, as a team, we have to do better.

“We gave away a sloppy goal straight after we had scored our second – that lifted the crowd, but we have to do better. It’s bitterly disappointing that we didn’t.”

Man Utd Boss Questions Wayne Rooney’s Ability To Play As A Striker

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has questioned Wayne Rooney’s performances as a striker for his side since he took charge of the Old Trafford club.

He said that the forward has done “well, but not spectacular” when played as a centre forward.

The Dutch boss has explained that this is the reason why he’s decided to play him behind a front pairing of Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao before today’s match against Leicester City, as reported by Alice McKeehan of the Manchester Evening News, reporting quotes from the manager when speaking on Sky Sports.

Many fans remain undecided on Rooney’s best position when playing, with his goal tally suggesting that he works effectively as a striker.

The player himself prefers to play in an advanced midfield role, but has rarely been used there over the years. There are also questions about his creative ability and whether it is enough to impress in that role when compared to other players.
