Man Utd Braced For Chelsea Targeted Mega Star To Leave Old Trafford

Monaco’s vice president has admitted that his club were previously in negotiations for the transfer of Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney, and believes that his club can capture the newly appointed England skipper in the future, as reported by the Daily Star.

The club from the French principality have spent significantly since the ownership of Dmitry Rybolovlev began, attracting a spate of global stars.

One of those is Radamel Falcao, who moved from Monaco to Old Trafford on loan on deadline day.

Rooney was targeted, in particular, by Monaco, although a deal did not come to fruition.

Despite the failure of the particularly ambitious bid, Vadim Vasilyev has not been deterred from his goal.

The Stade Louis II chief is still keen on bringing the energetic forward to Ligue 1, despite the fact that the financial situation at the club has worsened slightly, with Rybolovlev having tightened the club’s purse string.

Rybolovlev said: “One year ago, we were discussing one of the top players of the Premier League, a top English player.

“But it was on the table. This opportunity finally did not happen, but I think one day that it will come, that it will happen.”

Man Utd Star Apologises To Team And Boss For Poor Decision

Manchester United star Wayne Rooney has apologised to his teammates and manager Louis van Gaal for his sending off against West Ham, telling the press that the referee also got the decision right, as reported by the Daily Express.

The England captain was shown a straight red card for chasing down winger Stewart Downing and seemingly kicking him without much intention to get the ball.

This put a dampener on what was the tenth anniversary of Rooney’s debut for the Old Trafford club, although the striker did open the scoring against Sam Allardyce’s side.

His 59th minute dismissal could have cost Man Utd a key game, as West Ham pressed for an equaliser, only to be denied when Kevin Nolan’s late strike was chalked off for offside.

Having apologised to his teammates, he was also thankful that Van Gaal accepted his explanation for the rash tackle, revealing that Downing was simply too quick for him.

“It was probably the right decision,” Rooney said.

“I saw the West Ham player making a counter-attack and I tried to break up the play, but I just misjudged it.

“I expect people to say it’s a sign of the old temper flaring up again but I was trying to break up the play. It was a dangerous situation in that they were trying to break on us and I have just misjudged it, simple as that.

“I have no complaints. I understand it. I knew at the time that I misjudged it. It is a red card and I don’t think it will benefit anyone to appeal against the decision.

“Everyone knew I was in the wrong.

“It’s always tough against 11 men when you are a man down, especially when they are throwing a lot of balls into the box as they were doing, so I am grateful that we held out.

“I haven’t absolutely volleyed the lad. I have tried to trip him up and, to be fair to him, he got further away from me and that is why my leg is straighter than it should have been. As he pushed the ball away, my leg has straightened out and that is obviously why the referee has deemed it as a red card.”

£20M Man Utd Star: Rooney Red Put Us Under Pressure

Manchester United’s Dutch international star Robin van Persie has revealed that Wayne Rooney’s red card against West Ham on Saturday made the last period of the clash a more difficult encounter than expected, as reported by the Daily Express.

Having followed up Rooney’s opener with a strike of his own, Van Persie saw West Ham put the Old Trafford club’s defence under incredible pressure towards the end of the game, with only an offside flag chalking out an equaliser from Kevin Nolan.

This was the result of Rooney’s red card, which came after he kicked out at Stewart Downing.

As a result, Rooney will be suspended for three games, but Van Persie revealed that the incident could have cost them the game, assuming they had not held out.

He said: “At times it was a bit nerve-wracking but we did ever so well and everyone fought really hard.

“I thought we played really well in the first half but in the second it was a completely different game because of the red card.

“It was a bit frustrating to concede a goal when we did because in that period in the game the only way they looked like scoring was from a set-piece and it happened, just before half-time.

“That was a bad moment for us but I think we did really in the end to win this game. For everyone involved with Manchester United I think this is about more than just the three points.”

It has to be said that West Ham were incredibly unlucky not to emerge from the game with a point, with only staunch defending keeping them at bay.
