Man Utd Boss Pans Squad, Says It Lacks Discipline

Manchester United boss has criticised his current squad’s lack of discipline, suggesting that they need to improve this in order to kill off games, as reported by the Daily Express.

Despite huge pre season optimism around the club, Van Gaal has not overseen a big improvement in form from his players, winning only three of the eight Premier League games that they have played.

They sit 11 points behind Chelsea in the Premier League as a result, comfortably part of the chasing pack rather than challenging for the title themselves.

Van Gaal believes this is down to a lack of discipline in the squad, and that more needs to be added if they want to challenge for the title in earnest.

He said: “When you see a match, when a trainer or coach is honest, you see his team is not playing 90 minutes at the highest level.

“So, that is not so difficult to feel and analyse, but to improve it is much more difficult. That is what we are looking for.

“The players are willing to do everything and we saw that in the matches against West Ham and Everton, but you have to do it in the right way.

“To kill a game, for example, you need a lot of discipline, and discipline together – not with three players or eight players, but with 11 players.

“That is the most difficult thing and we can do that, but that needs time.”

Man Utd spent £150 million in the summer improving their squad, having finished in seventh place last season.

The appointment of Van Gaal did not bring immediate results, with an infamous 4-0 loss to MK Dons in the League Cup making headlines in the early part of the season.

Legendary Man Utd Boss Backs Club’s Summer Transfer Policy

Former Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson has given his approval to the club’s summer transfer policy, which saw new manager Louis van Gaal oversee a radical £150 million restructuring of the squad, as reported by the Daily Star.

Van Gaal replaced David Moyes, who was never given an opportunity to spend the same level of funds, and the Dutch boss saw many chances to spend money given to him.

With Ed Woodward loosening the purse strings, Van Gaal splashed the cash, hoping to improve a Man Utd squad which had stumbled to a seventh place finish in the Premier League last season.

As a result, Van Gaal was able to sign six new players for the first team, and the club shattered the record outlay for a British side, paying £59.7 million to bring in Angel Di Maria from Real Madrid.

The summer also saw the departures of home grown stars like Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverley, and some questioned how this fit in with Man Utd’s ethos.

However, former boss Ferguson has backed Van Gaal, saying: “Louis van Gaal has made a lot of changes and, thinking about that, actually maybe he’s doing the right thing, to clear the decks and build his own team.

“Because he’s got the experience and coaching ability to do that. The way he’s approached it I think has been brilliant.”

Man Utd Boss Questions Responsibility Of Attacking Stars After Leicester Loss

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has questioned the responsibility of players like Wayne Rooney, Angel Di Maria and Juan Mata by saying that the whole team did not help the defence in the game against Leicester City, as reported by BBC Sport.

Despite entering the 60th minute of the game 3-1 up against the recently promoted side, Man Utd conceded four goals without reply to slump to a 5-3 loss in a sensational clash.

Questions have been asked about the club’s defenders, and whether the club spent poorly in signing so many forward players during the summer transfer window, but Van Gaal had a different belief about why the result came about.

He said: “I think the spectators have seen a fantastic spectacle today and we started well and scored fantastic goals. In second half, we scored another goal but you have to win the game and we didn’t do that. We didn’t keep ball possession in the right way.

“We have too many players who want to seek for the goal. Leicester have already showed against Arsenal and Stoke that they can come back and they did it very well.

“For the first penalty it is always the referee [who you talk about] but you don’t have to do that as a player. You know you are in the penalty area and you allow the referee to whistle if you make a challenge, I don’t know if it is a penalty but we have to look at ourselves because we made such big errors as a team.

“I cannot say that I am happy. In the world of football, these matches happen. I was a coach at Barcelona in my first year and we were 3-0 ahead, with 15 minutes to play and we lost 3-4. It can happen, it is the world of football but it is not good because we have the game in our pocket and gave it away. Not because of Leicester, we gave it away and I don’t like that.

“You cannot say the defence was weak. You play like a team, Leicester showed that, we did not play like a team in the second half and that is not only defence. In a defensive situation the whole team is responsible, not just one defender.”

The comment was not without merit, with both Rooney and Mata being responsible for losing possession cheaply prior to Leicester’s goals.

However, with the Dutch manager having to turn to youth like Tyler Blackett to fill his defence, it can be asked whether an experienced defender might have been a better signing in the summer.
