Discussion with journalist Leon Wobschall: Leeds Utd situation and Championship run-in

Spoughts.co.uk sat down with Yorkshire Post and Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Leon Wobschall earlier today to preview the last round of Championship fixtures.

One of the key ties in the division comes at Elland Road on Saturday, where Leeds United host Rotherham. Rotherham will, if they fail to beat Reading on Wednesday night, need a victory against Leeds to ensure that they start next season in the second tier.

Elsewhere, the promotion race is hotting up, but its now Bournemouth’s to lose. Middlesbrough collapsed to a last minute loss against Fulham, which means they need Bournemouth to lose against Bolton on Monday night to stand any chance of avoiding the lottery of the play-offs.

Other discussion points include Leeds’s crazy season, and the situation surrounding Neil Redfearn’s future at the club, including possible destinations for the current Leeds head coach should Cellino decide to dispense with him.

Podcast #1: Divers, Diversity and David Dunn

Welcome to the first ever Spoughts podcast and, should our legal advisors have their way, possibly the last.

Amitai Winehouse was joined by Mark Critchley and Joe Gleave in a disused lecture theatre with a dictaphone our high-tech, fully-equipped studio designed for perfect podcast recording.

You know that competent and informative football podcast you listen to? Yeah, this is a bit different.

It’s a barely coherent and borderline libelous look back on a fraction of the weekend’s action, in which we celebrate divers, diversity and the diminishing career of David Dunn.

If there’s another podcast, we promise to try and be articulate.

Hockaday Refuses To Rule Out Leeds Signing Italian Youth International

Dave Hockaday has refused to rule out the signing of former Italian Under-21 goalkeeper Marco Silvestri, who has been extensively linked with the club in recent days.

The 23-year-old, who spent the end of last season on loan with Massimo Cellino’s former club Cagliari, seems set to make the switch to Elland Road. Leeds are currently under a transfer embargo as a result of the winding-up petition served on them by Sport Capital, although they expect this to be lifted as soon as Tuesday.

When asked about Silvestri by Adam Pope of Radio Leeds, new Leeds Head Coach Hockaday refused to say anything except that the deal is not yet complete.

Leeds also look set to complete the signing of the former Maidenhead United defender Andre Blackman, after he was pictured at the club shop as part of the new home kit launch.

The Elland Road club began their pre-season on Thursday, although they have not yet revealed a full schedule of games. They travel to Italy this week, with a series of fixtures expected to be played there against local sides.
