Liverpool Boss Reveals Lessons Learnt From Chelsea Manager

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed the lessons that he learnt from Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, paying tribute to the influence that he had on his career, as reported by the Daily Star.

Rodgers got his start under Mourinho at Chelsea, working as the reserve team gaffer.

He eventually departed Stamford Bridge in order to begin his own managerial career.

A poor spell at Reading followed, before another opportunity arose at Swansea City, where he established himself as one of the more highly rated young managers in world football.

From there, John W Henry and Liverpool came calling, and he was appointed as manager at the historic Merseyside club.

He hasn’t looked back since joining the Reds, leading them to a second place finish in the Premier League last season and qualifying for the Champions League in the process.

However, he took time to credit Mourinho for the initial influence he had on him, saying: “It was a wonderful experience, I learned.

“Jose was a great planner and a good man to me as a young coach.

“He gave me responsibility, and the pressure of working with the big players when I was just 30 years of age.

“I will always be grateful to him for giving me the opportunity to coach the reserve team and be near him, and the first team.

“He’s a friend of mine and its slightly different now because we are both so engrossed in our roles and our jobs that we don’t get the chance to speak so much now.”

Liverpool Boss Warns Season Could Get Worse

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted that the situation at the club could yet get worse before it gets better, as reported by the Daily Star.

It has been over a month since Liverpool won a game in the Premier League, with their victory against Spurs at the end of August being followed by two losses and a draw.

While Liverpool were at their fluid, attacking best against the White Hart Lane club, they’ve failed to put together performances like last last season since.

This week also saw a loss against Basel in the Champions League, and there are increasing concerns that they will fail to match the achievements of last season.

The clear difference is the loss of Luis Suarez, who was sold to Barcelona during the summer for £75 million.

Daniel Sturridge has also been ruled out with a thigh problem, but is set to make his return in the near future.

Rodgers feels like they will soon come good, but that it could yet take time.

He said: “I think that the pain is for now. It’s unfortunate.

“For us I think it was that we lost a top class player, having to bring in other players that can help us now, and obviously for the future.

“I think that once these players settle in and adapt, and they really understand how we work, then we’ll move back to where we were.

“There will be frustration, absolutely, and there’s no-one respects that more than me.

“But we have to work hard to get them settled.

“We lost that movement and speed of Sturridge, the link-up with other players, that has broken the dynamic a little.

“We just have to persevere until we get the squad back.

“In the meantime, it’s obviously been hard for the supporters and I totally understand.”

Liverpool Boss Rodgers: New Signing Will Be World Class

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has insisted that summer signing Divock Origi will turn out to be world class in the future, having brought the player to the club from Lille shortly after his involvement at this summer’s World Cup, as reported by the Daily Star.

The striker returned to Lille on loan for the season, and Rodgers has also revealed that he would have been happy to have kept him in this year’s squad.

However, part of the agreement to bring Origi in saw him depart for the season.

In fact, Rodgers has admitted that the only way they could agree a transfer was by agreeing Lille could keep the striker for another season.

Rodgers said: “It’s no good now, I know, but we took a player in Divock Origi who we believe will be world class.

“We will get him next summer. Now he is a top player.

“He has everything — the speed, the profile and so on.

“But we couldn’t bring him in now and that was unfortunate because he can run in behind, he can keep the ball, press and run but that was part of the deal.

“There were very few top-class forwards who were available.”

Liverpool have lacked fluidity thus far this season, and their striking options have been pointed out as a reason behind this.

Daniel Sturridge’s injury while with England has impacted the side, with Mario Balotelli struggling to settle.
