Liverpool Need To Beat Chelsea Tonight To Kickstart New Era

Their achievement in the Premier League last year was enough to show that Brendan Rodgers’ side has potential to grow, but a win in the Capital One Cup would give his team a platform on which to build.

Rodgers has a lot to be credited with in his time at the Anfield club, not least the development of the likes of Raheem Sterling and Jordan Henderson. Daniel Sturridge and Jon Flanagan were also key players last season as the Reds pushed for the Premier League title, missing out only in the last three games of the season.

Rodgers: £16m Liverpool Signing Doesn’t Fit System

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted that his club’s £16 million summer signing Mario Balotelli does not fit the system that his team like to play.

Ballet joined the Reds towards the end of the transfer window from boyhood club AC Milan, with his signing supposed to cover for the departure of Luis Suarez, who moved to Barcelona for a fee believed to be around £75 million.

However, Balotelli has struggled since his arrival, and he has not scored in the Premier League.

He has only scored twice in his 15 appearances in all competitions.

Liverpool’s struggles in front of goal have led to issues for the entire side.

They have slumped from 2nd in the Premier League to 10th place this time around.

It has to be said that the Reds have not truly adapted to Suarez’s departure and the injury to Daniel Sturridge.

Their best displays have been without Balotelli, and Rodgers has admitted that that is the case.

“We’ve seen it isn’t really his game,” Rodgers said.

“Working with Mario we see someone who is better in and around the box so that level of intensity and pressing isn’t part of his game.

“You try to get the best out of the players you have and the quality you have.”

Liverpool Boss Rodgers Is A ‘Bad Manager’ – Ex-England Ace

Brendan Rodgers is a bad manager, according to former Manchester City star and England international Rodney Marsh.

The former pro has also declared that the signing of Mario Balotelli, who cost Liverpool £16 million to bring in this summer from AC Milan, is the most embarrassing signing in the history of the Premier League.

Rodgers was exceptional with his management of the Anfield club last season, leading them to a surprise title push, but there was disappointment at the Reds after they finished second in the league, having led the table going into the final few games of the season.

They’ve struggled this year, with Liverpool having won only six games out of 17 since the start of the season.

The table reflects their crisis, with Liverpool marooned in tenth.

They were also knocked out of the Champions League in the group stages.

Marsh has, as a result, declared that Rodgers is a bad manager who is struggling.

He told Talksport: “The manager has lost his way.

“He might be a good coach, but a bad manager.

“The Balotelli signing is one of the most embarrassing signings in the history of the Premier League, and that is down to the manager. He [Balotelli] is a certainty to go in January.

“They [Liverpool] were desperately in need of a target man in the game at the weekend [against Arsenal]. He’s bought Balotelli, who is useless. He’s bought Rickie Lambert and sits him on the bench and plays without a centre-forward.

“And when he does bring one on, he puts on [Fabio] Borini. Are you kidding me? He will never play for Liverpool again.

“He [Borini] looked to me as if he was trying to do something to get sent off. It almost looked like he was doing it on purpose.”
