Rodgers: Liverpool’s Spirit Remains Our Greatest Asset

Brendan Rodgers has responded to the incident involving Mamadou Sakho, by declaring that the France international is not representative of the rest of the side, and that team spirit is still exceptional at Liverpool, as reported by the Daily Express.

Sakho left Anfield early on Saturday, after being left out of the squad to face city rivals Everton in the Merseyside derby.

Rodgers is of the opinion that Sakho’s behaviour was an isolated incident, and is unlike the rest of his team.

The game against the Toffees eventually finished 1-1, with Everton captain Phil Jagielka scoring an atypical volley from outside the area to secure a point for his side.

Sakho was left out of the travelling party that went to Basel, and missed out on the club’s Champions League game as a result.

However, Rodgers was insistent that this was because of a thigh problem, and with Sakho having apologised, Rodgers sought to clarify that the rest of his team still shared a good spirit.

He said: “It’s not something that we expect from our players.

“We have spoken, he knows the situation and he has apologised. We move on.

“He has been injured in a training session. He has felt something in his thigh, he has had a scan and it will be two to three weeks.

“This is a group that has based its success on being a team and its behaviour within the group. Whatever we have achieved has been down to the team.

“We are working hard to consistently win games. It will take a wee bit of time but it (reaction of one player) is never something that affects that team. We are working consistently hard to win games.”

Rodgers Calls On Liverpool Old Guard To Help £100m+ New Boys

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has called on the more long term veterans of the squad to help the new signings settle, and help the team out by taking on the burden of driving the rest of the side to victory, as reported by the Daily Star.

The Anfield club have had a mixed start to the new season, winning two of their four Premier League ties but losing the other two to Manchester City, who are admittedly the reigning Premier League champions, and Aston Villa, who beat the Reds at home despite having been predicted strugglers in the league this season.

Rodgers therefore wants the talent who have been at the club for longer to do more to ensure that results improve going forward. The club have not hit their swashbuckling peak from last season, when attacking cohesion made them one of the most difficult sides to face in the Premier League.

When asked about whether he wants more from his veterans, Rodgers said: “I think they naturally do that, I think that is part of the process here.

“We are about the team and we will attack and defend, win and lose as a team, but with the new players coming in it does take a bit of time – but it is not an excuse.

“While you are letting the players settle you need to win matches.”

Boss: 24-Year-Old Liverpool Star Keen On Club’s History

Liverpool star Mario Balotelli has taken a firm interest in studying the club’s storied history since his arrival from AC Milan for £16 million, as revealed by manager Brendan Rodgers, who sees the player learning the past as part of his attempt to become a hero at the Anfield club, as reported by the Daily Star.

Balotelli added a new chapter to the annals of Liverpool’s history with his goal against Ludogorets in the Champions League on Tuesday night, the club’s first game in the competition since 2009.

It was his first strike for the club since his move towards the end of the transfer window.

It now seems as though he is studying the club’s past.

Rodgers said: “He’s a boy who has really looked into the history of the club and he understands the great strikers of the past.

“We have spoken about Suarez and his time here. Remember he’s still young, he still wants to learn, he still needs to learn and that’s the beauty of it for me.

“When I spoke to him when I first met him he still had this keenness to want to learn and when you see his work against Ludogorets, he put his body on the line and he needs to do more of that.

“I think that will come when he gets fitter and getting into good positions will allow him to score goals. But he’s well in tune with the history, not only of the club, but of Liverpool.”

Balotelli was brought in to cope with the departure of Luis Suarez, who moved to Barcelona this summer for £75 million. He has been handed a key role by the injury suffered by Daniel Sturridge, who was ruled out for a few weeks as a result of a hamstring injury suffered while on duty with England.
