Arsenal Eye £16m January Bid For Midfield Dynamo – reports

Arsenal are considering putting together a £16 million bid for Newcastle United central midfielder Moussa Sissoko in the January transfer window.

However, a lack of funds could put an end to any chase for the French international.

Arsene Wenger reportedly has only £20 million to spend on reinforcements in the transfer window.

The Gunners are in real need of a powerful central midfielder to offer more balance to their side.

They were forced to play a central midfield trio of Mathieu Flamini, Santi Cazorla and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain against Liverpool at the weekend, showing their weakness in the middle of the park.

However, with limited funds available to him, Wenger has to balance his midfield issues with the need for a new central defender.

As a result, the Mirror are reporting that, while Sissoko is on a transfer wish list, a move may not be forthcoming.

Sissoko recently admitted his love for Arsenal, telling the press: “Arsenal were my favourite club when I was young and my idol was Patrick Vieira. I have always loved this club and I still love them.

“I have ambition. My goal is to play at the best clubs, playing the Champions League, win trophies, but today I am a Magpie and I am very happy.”

£59.7m Ace Could Start For Man Utd Against Newcastle

Manchester United’s record breaking £59.7 million signing Angel Di Maria could be in line for a return to the first team for the Old Trafford club against Newcastle United on Boxing Day.

Di Maria has not started a game since the 29th of August, when he suffered a small hamstring tear against Hull City.

However, he returned to the pitch against Aston Villa at the weekend, playing around half an hour as a second half substitute for the Red Devils.

Man Utd were ultimately held to a 1-1 draw by the Villa Park club on Saturday, having initially gone behind to a Christian Benteke goal.

They scored an equaliser through Radamel Falcao, but the draw halted a run of six wins on the bounce, which had lifted them to title contention.

Di Maria could now be handed a start against the north east side on Boxing Day, having proven his fitness in that draw.

President Rules Out Liverpool & Newcastle Purchase Of £15m Star Striker

Liverpool have been dealt a final blow in their chase for Lyon star Alexandre Lacazette, with the president confirming that there is no change the player will leave the club.

The failure of Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert to replace the goals lost with the sale of Luis Suarez in the summer means that the Anfield club are keen to buy another striker in January.

Daniel Sturridge’s injuries have been problematic for Liverpool too, and as a result, they have crawled to tenth in the Premier League heading into the Christmas period.

Lacazette would be an ideal signing for the Reds, having fired home a huge 17 goals in Ligue 1 this season, exactly the sort of goalscoring record that Brendan Rodgers’ side are lacking.

Newcastle were also linked with a move in the summer, and could have shown their interest again.

However, Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has once again ruled out any sort of sale, having said the same last month.

Aulas said: “It’s more than a desire, it’s a decision.

“It has happened, by obligation, that we say ‘No’ in the hope of getting a big offer, but this time, it’s ‘No,’ and it’s a question of strategy.

“We will not sell. We have just invested more than 400 million euros in a new stadium, so to sell our best players, who would enable us to play the Champions League in that stadium, would be to go against our strategy.”

Our verdict

Liverpool clearly need another striker, but it seems as though it won’t be Lacazette. This is the second time Aulas has ruled out his sale, and seems pretty set on that.
