Inter legend criticises Manchester United tactics

Inter Milan legend Dejan Stankovic has criticised Manchester United’s defensive tactics under a succession of managers, pointing out that they left former captain Nemanja Vidic horribly exposed, as reported by ESPN.com.

Vidic was considered a fantastic defender during his time in the Premier League, but was never renowned for his pace. Certain strikers repeatedly exploited this fault in his game, making it incredibly easy for them to take advantage of him.

The likes of Fernando Torres seemed to have something of a hex on him, but they simply did their best to turn the defender, something he found difficult to deal with.

The Serbian international left Old Trafford at the end of last season, having struggled under David Moyes, and his compatriot Stankovic has now suggested that both Moyes and Alex Ferguson could have done more to deal with the issue.

He told Vidic, upon signing for Inter: “Nema, in Italy there’s great attention to detail on organisation and tactics.

“You’ve had to face great strikers in one-v-ones with a motorway behind you for years; here you can play with a cigarette in your mouth.”

Inter return to European football this season in the Europa League, having missed out on the competition last season. They look likely to sign Cardiff midfielder Gary Medel.

Manchester United Make Bid for Swiss International World Cup Maestro

The German local daily Wolfsburger Allgemeine is reporting that Manchester United have made a bid for Swiss international left-back Ricardo Rodriguez.

The 21-year-old impressed significantly at this summer’s World Cup, forming an integral part of a side that managed to emerge from their group and reach the round of 16. Rodriguez has previously been linked to Liverpool, but it now looks as though the Old Trafford club have stolen a march on their rivals for the signature of the incredibly talented defender.

Manchester United are looking to rebuild this summer after the failure of last season, in which newly appointed manager David Moyes steered the previous season’s champions to a seventh place finish. He was later sacked, before being replaced on a temporary basis by Ryan Giggs. Louis van Gaal has since taken charge at the club.

The Dutch coach has already signed a left-back since taking the role, former Southmapton man Luke Shaw. He now seems keen to add further reinforcements in that role.

Chelsea to make shock move for Fabregas

Spanish newspaper Marca are reporting that Chelsea are set to make a shock move for Cesc Fabregas, bringing him back to England’s capital.

After a difficult period at Barcelona, Fabregas is keen to return to the Premier League, where he made his name with Arsenal. Mourinho has been alerted to the Spanish international’s availability by his representative Darren Dein.

Chelsea will have to fight off staunch competition from Manchester United, however, who are willing to offer Fabregas a significant pay increase. Manchester United need to rebuild their squad under new manager Louis Van Gaal after a disastrous season saw them finish seventh. Fabregas currently earns €5 million a season at Barcelona, with Man Utd willing to pay upwards of €6 million to convince him to join. They are also preparing an offer of €40 million.

Chelsea, worried about Financial Fair Play, will not be able to offer the same salary, but can offer Fabregas Champions League football. It remains to be seen whether Arsenal may be interested in bringing him back to the Emirates Stadium, a move he would surely prefer to either. Arsenal can also sign Fabregas for only €36 million, due to a buy back clause.

Manchester City have also supposedly met with Dein.
