Manchester United and Liverpool target Ricardo Rodriguez wants to depart VFL Wolfsburg in the January transfer window, as reported by German newspaper Wolfsburger Nachrichten.
The Swiss international left back was incredibly impressive at this summer’s World Cup in Brazil, and after his excellent displays, he was linked with a switch to both Man Utd and Liverpool.
No move was ever pushed through by the Premier League duo, and they signed Marcos Rojo and Alberto Moreno respectively.
Part of the reason why a move for Rodriguez was not successful for either club was the fact that the player was not particularly keen to leave his current club, a reality that remained the case up until very recently.
However, it now seems as though the talented defender is hopeful of a switch in January, having decided that he wants a change of scenery.
It remains to be seen if either Man Utd or Liverpool will now go back in for him.
The German local daily Wolfsburger Allgemeine is reporting that Manchester United have made a bid for Swiss international left-back Ricardo Rodriguez.
The 21-year-old impressed significantly at this summer’s World Cup, forming an integral part of a side that managed to emerge from their group and reach the round of 16. Rodriguez has previously been linked to Liverpool, but it now looks as though the Old Trafford club have stolen a march on their rivals for the signature of the incredibly talented defender.
Manchester United are looking to rebuild this summer after the failure of last season, in which newly appointed manager David Moyes steered the previous season’s champions to a seventh place finish. He was later sacked, before being replaced on a temporary basis by Ryan Giggs. Louis van Gaal has since taken charge at the club.
The Dutch coach has already signed a left-back since taking the role, former Southmapton man Luke Shaw. He now seems keen to add further reinforcements in that role.
