Liverpool Boss Praises Controversial Real Selection

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has praised the players that he controversially selected for the clash against Real Madrid in the Champions League last night, as reported by the Daily Star.

Rodgers is believed to have rested a series of players in the game, but has now hinted that it might be more difficult for his perceived first team players to get back into the first team after last night’s display.

Despite the fact that the Reds lost the clash against the Spanish giants, the 1-0 result was far better than expected, given their recent poor form, and has seen many in the media react positively to Rodgers’s selection for the game.

As a result, Rodgers has insisted that his star players will not necessarily be back in the first team at the weekend.

He also praised the players that he did choose to play against the current holders of the Champions League.

He said: “Kolo Toure was outstanding, so was Lucas in the controlling role and Emre Can was excellent, so was Adam Lallana and Fabio Borini and Lazar Markovic.

“It might have seemed a gamble, but for me it was not. We are disappointed with the result.

“We have not been consistent enough to have guaranteed starters. I had to change the team after the performance against Newcastle. I have to show trust as a coach and a manager and now we have to be focused on our next game against Chelsea and pick a team to win that one.”
