Liverpool’s young Spanish star Suso has praised Brendan Rodgers’s training methods, having returned to the club for the coming season after a season on loan with Almeria, as reported by the club’s official website, LiverpoolFC.com.
Suso took time to purposefully point out how exceptional he found Rodgers’s training regime, and also added that his style was akin to that of a coach from his homeland of Spain, with particular note for the extent to which Rodgers focusses on work with the football.
The 20-year-old moved to Merseyside from Cadiz in 2010, spending two years training with the academy. Since 2012, he has made 14 appearances for the first team, although his most consistent set of games has come in his loan spell with Almeria last season, when he played 33 times and scored three goals for the La Liga side as they finished 17th in the league, just avoiding relegation.
He has also played at every Spanish youth level.
Suso said: “I look at him and I see him as similar to a Spanish coach because all the work we do in training is with the ball.
“Every time he asks us to do something it’s with the ball. He wants us to play with the ball, never play a long ball and for me that’s really good because that’s my philosophy. When I go away with Spain it’s more or less the same.
“He has done really well since he came here. When he first came he had to change some things and improve the team, which takes a long time, but now we can see all the things he was working with in the past is working now.
“It’s a Spanish philosophy to play; you always want the ball, don’t lose it and give it to the opposition. It’s really good for me and the team.”
