Arsenal To Open Contract Talks With Key Talent

Arsenal are set to open up contract talks with Theo Walcott, in the hopes of tying him down to a new long term contract, as reported by the Daily Star.

The winger has struggled with injury recently, although he made his return to the Gunners’ first team against Burnley at the weekend, his first appearance since a 2-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur in January in the FA Cup.

Walcott’s contract is set to expire at the end of next season, and as a result, Arsene Wenger is hopeful about giving him a new deal.

The England international’s last contract was agreed in January 2013 after a period of tense talks with the north London club.

The deal was for three and a half years, and is on the cusp of expiring.

Wenger is also hopeful that the deal will thereby tie Walcott down for his best years.

The player is only 26, when many forwards peak.

Wenger said: “We are starting talks, we are starting to sit down with him.

“He has one-and-a-half years to go in December. It is never an easy job with him.

“It should be his peak years, yes, because he is going on 26. It’s the best years now, so hopefully we can profit from that.”

Arsenal’s Huge Boost As Key Pair Return To Full Training

Arsenal have been handed a huge boost over the international break, after it was revealed that injured duo Theo Walcott and Serge Gnabry have both returned to full training, as reported by the Daily Star.

The Gunners have faced painful news over the last week with regards to the fitness of key stars, with the most damaging being the fact that Mesut Ozil will miss up to three months of action after suffering a slight ligament tear.

Laurent Koscielny, so key to Arsenal’s defence, has also been struggling with an Achilles problem, adding more injury problems to Arsene Wenger’s long list.

However, Wenger will receive a significant boost from the dual return of Walcott and Gnabry, who have both been out of action for extended periods of time.

Arsenal are 16/1 to win the Premier League with William Hill

Walcott has not featured since January, when Arsenal beat Spurs 2-0 in the FA Cup, and Gnabry suffered an injury in April.

Wenger said: “Theo is not too far away now.

“Serge has been out for a long, long time and Theo has also been out for nine months, so it’s good to see them back.

“They’ve worked very hard and they’re very dedicated. They are back in the group on a daily basis and that’s very good news.”

Arsenal Star: Wenger Can Get More From Welbeck Than Ferguson

Arsenal’s injured star Theo Walcott has said that his new teammate Danny Welbeck will definitely play better for the north London club than he did for his boyhood club Manchester United, and thinks his manager will get more out of him than his previous bosses did, as reported by the Daily Star.

Walcott praised Welbeck, who he has played with before for the England national team, and said that he is a good person to have on your side, both on and off the pitch.

Despite the £16 million star being previously managed by Alex Ferguson, who is regarded as one of the best managers of all time, Walcott thinks that Arsene Wenger will get even more out of him.

He said: “He’s going to be better for us than he was at Man Utd, definitely.

“He’ll get more opportunities and he’s got a point to prove.

“I know he’s worked hard and he’s still very young, and I think the boss will enjoy working with him.

“The fans definitely will [enjoy watching him] – he’s very exciting and he’s very strong.

“I’ve worked with Danny for England and we link up very well.

“He’s another English guy and we’ve got a good English core now. He’s a very good guy and a very hard worker.

“Off the pitch he’s very relaxed and likes to get involved in anything.

“He fits perfectly into Arsenal, which is such a big family club where everyone’s together. He’ll fit straight in here.”

A deadline day move saw Welbeck move from Old Trafford, where he began his career, and join the Emirates Stadium club on a five year deal. Many Man Utd heroes of the past have questioned the sale, as have fans.
