0 Pro Games: Man Utd To Turn To Untested Defender For West Ham Tie

Manchester United are set to turn to 19 year old defender Paddy McNair for the game against West Ham United on Saturday, so significant are their defensive problems ahead of the Premier League clash, as reported by The Guardian.

A crisis in central defence has caused Louis van Gaal to look into using the Northern Irish youngster, who has never made a first team appearance for any side at any level in the professional game.

McNair joined Man Utd three years ago as a midfielder, but time in the youth setup has seen him develop into a central defender.

With Chris Smalling lacking fitness, Man Utd’s options are slowly drying up in defence. Phil Jones and Jonny Evans are both injured, with Tyler Blackett suspended for the red card he picked up in the 5-3 loss against Leicester City.

While Michael Carrick can play in defence, he has only just returned from a long term injury.

Luke Shaw will almost certainly be given his debut after his big money summer move, with Marcos Rojo likely to partner one of McNair or Daley Blind in the centre of defence.

PL Boss Attacks Man Utd For Timing Of £150m Spend

West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce has panned Manchester United for not backing David Moyes last summer in the transfer market, as reported by the Daily Express.

The former Everton manager took charge of the club after the retirement of Alex Ferguson, and was considered to be his hand picked replacement.

He was ultimately sacked by the Manchester club after failing to put any consistent form together, leaving the club in April.

His spell lasted far less than a year, which contrasted significantly with Ferguson’s extended reign in charge of the club.

Moyes was ultimately replaced by Dutch boss Louis van Gaal, and the former Netherlands manager has been granted £150 million to spend this summer, choosing to use it on six new signings.

The West Ham boss has now questioned the logic of not giving Moyes similar support, given the size of the task he had ahead of him.

He told The Sun: “If I was sat at home in David’s shoes I would be wondering why they didn’t spend the 150 million pounds with me.

“There was a complacency by United in not going out and delivering the signings David felt he needed. Now there’s a panic on.

“He will obviously look at what he might have done better but he shouldhave got the players he wanted and he tells me he didn’t get any of them.”It was difficult enough taking over from Alex Ferguson but if, when you take over, you don’t get what you want, it’s so much harder.

“It was a great shame because he’d done everything right at Everton and Sir Alex saw the fact he wanted to build at United like he had done at Everton.

“I’m not so sure anybody would have been successful in that season — history tells you that. Look at other examples, like when Brian Clough took over from a legend in Don Revie at Leeds and only lasted 44 days.”

PL Rival Boss Claims £16m Liverpool Signing Is Not Enough Of An “Adult”

West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce has claimed that £16 million Liverpool addition has to become a more responsible adult if he wants to succeed in the Premier League at the Anfield club in the future, as reported by the Evening Standard.

Allardyce’s West Ham host the Reds at the weekend, and in facing them, Allardyce is battling a team who, on form, are one of the best attacking sides in the Premier League.

However, they have stuttered thus far this season, with new signings needing time to blend combining unfortunately with a series of injuries suffered by key talents from last season’s successes.

Balotelli, despite his chequered past, was brought in towards the end of the summer transfer window from AC Milan for £16 million, and the Italian international scored his first goal for Liverpool against Ludogorets in the Champions League on Tuesday.

There remain questions over his attitude, and to that end, Allardyce has said: “[Balotelli] showed in the Champions League this week that he can score from a half-chance and if he has managed to improve his temperament on and off the field and become a more responsible adult, then I think he could be a big player for Liverpool.

“He’s not a Luis Suarez, but if he can finish the season in double figures, then he will have been a success.”
