How This Arsenal Duo Snatched £16m Sensation Away From Spurs – reports

Arsenal’s captaincy duo of Mikel Arteta and his vice captain Per Mertesacker are reported to have played a huge role in convincing Arsene Wenger and the club to confirm the deadline day signing of former Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck, as revealed by the Daily Star.

Having heard that only north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur were targeting the striker, the pair decided that they would petition the club to bring Welbeck in to the club in a multi million pound move.

Welbeck almost immediately showed why the club have got themselves a bargain this summer by scoring two for England in their 2-0 win against Switzerland in Monday’s Euro 2016 qualifier.

Arteta and Mertesacker met Welbeck in Arsenal’s gym at the training ground, with the Man Utd player having been training there with England before their friendly against Norway.

The duo realised the Gunners could still sign Welbeck if they move fast.

They both informed Arsene Wenger, and the French manager decided to sanction a deadline day bid for the England international. Wenger had previously failed to secure any of his preferred striking targets, including Radamel Falcao or Wilfried Bony.

Without the two players getting involved, chances are that Welbeck would now be a Spurs player.

Tottenham Hotspur Will Be Without A Stadium For 2017/18 – reports

Tottenham Hotspur could find themselves without a ground in 2017/18 after the news was revealed that the White Hart Lane redevelopment is unlikely to be ready for that season, as reported by Tim Nichols of the London Evening Standard.

The situation is so bad that Spurs may even find themselves playing their football at the Stadium:MK, MK Dons’s stadium in Milton Keynes, a stadium a significant distance from their current ground.

The redevelopment was expected to be completed for the beginning of the 2017/2018 season, but it seems that building work has not yet gone to plan, delaying the plans. This represents a five year delay on the original plan to have been able to move into their new stadium for the beginning of 2012/13.

Spurs are planning to knock down White Hart Lane as part of their redevelopment project.

The new stadium is expected to have a capacity of 56,250 fans, with costs of around £400 million to build it.

Midfield Maestro Still Not Over Failed Move To Arsenal Or Spurs

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur target Morgan Schneiderlin is still not over his failed move to the north London clubs, and while he is not keen on complaining any further, would probably be willing to move if the opportunity were to arise again, as reported by The Metro.

Schneiderlin’s mooted move away from Southampton turned into one of the longer running transfer sagas of the summer transfer window, with the midfield maestro publicly declaring his interest in a move away from the south coast club.

Discussions with Ronald Koeman and a staunch stance from the club about his availability saw him remain at St. Mary’s, one of few of their top talents not to take part in a considerable exodus from the club.

Despite the fact that he is clearly not over the failure of his move, he is still happy to remain at Southampton and stressed that he will play for the club that he still feels he owes a lot to, having joined them while they were in League One.

Schneiderlin said: “My situation was simple: at the end of the season my goal was to take the next step and join a club playing in the Champions League or the Europa League.

“There were offers on the table but Southampton made a clear choice, which was to keep me after the departure of certain players. They look to me for the future.

“I was ‘blocked’ but I must accept that because I have three years remaining on my contract. I could not afford to make a fuss and not play. I owe a lot to Southampton, who enabled me to make the France national team.

“I could not afford to go and clash with supporters who have always been cool with me. It would not have been cool for me to end up in an endless showdown.”
