Arsenal Drop Interest In Signing 29-Year-Old Defender – reports

Arsenal have reportedly dropped their interest in signing St Etienne defender Loic Perrin during the January transfer window, as reported by French outlet L’Equipe.

Perrin recently confirmed to the press that he had been contacted by the north London side ahead of a possible switch in the winter window, and it seemed as though the transfer was quite far down the line.

The veteran defender is regarded as a versatile option, able to play across the entire back line, something that was thought to appeal heavily to Arsene Wenger.

The French manager has seen his defence suffer injury after injury this season, and they have suffered poor results due to a lack of options at the back.

Perrin can also play in defensive midfield, a position in which Arsenal lack options.

However, inexplicably, despite expressing significant interest before to Perrin’s representatives, Arsenal are now reportedly no longer interested in bringing Perrin to the club.

Arsenal Near Signing Of Defensive Midfielder As Club Sign Replacement

Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Atletico Madrid midfielder Mario Suarez, after it was revealed that the Spanish champions have signed a replacement for him on a short term basis, as reported by the Daily Express.

The La Liga giants are expected to have to fend off bids for Suarez during the January transfer window, with the Gunners joining Napoli in being keen on tempting him away from the Spanish capital.

With the possibility of the defensive midfielder moving on, Atletico have moved swiftly after the reopening of the transfer window, bringing in 33 year old Villarreal midfielder Ruben Cani on loan to provide back up options.

While Suarez has made 18 appearances this season and Cani does not exactly measure up to him, he is a veteran with top flight experience, and provides a more economically viable option for the cash strapped side.

As a result, Cani’s arrival could see Suarez leave, but Arsenal will have to fight off Napoli to secure his signature.

Door Opened To Arsenal Summer Move For £7m Chelsea Hero – reports

Chelsea are leaving the door open to a £7 million bid from Arsenal for their veteran goalkeeper Petr Cech, with the player allowed to decide his own future when he has decided his time at Chelsea is done, as reported by the Telegraph.

With Arsenal sniffing around his signature, this means that the Czech international goalkeeper could make the surprise step of moving to Chelsea’s cross-city and Premier League rivals at the the end of the season.

While Cech’s contract with the Blues runs until 2016, there are doubts over whether he will be willing to stay with the club for that length of time.

He has fallen behind Belgian stopper Thibaut Courtois in Jose Mourinho’s pecking order, and he is not thought to be willing to keep sitting on the bench going forward.

Italian sources suggested yesterday that Roma were keen on signing him this month, but Mourinho does not want to part with him right now.

This might mean that the situation plays into Arsenal’s hands come the summer, if they keep chasing him.
