Arsenal Near Signing Of Defensive Midfielder As Club Sign Replacement

Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Atletico Madrid midfielder Mario Suarez, after it was revealed that the Spanish champions have signed a replacement for him on a short term basis, as reported by the Daily Express.

The La Liga giants are expected to have to fend off bids for Suarez during the January transfer window, with the Gunners joining Napoli in being keen on tempting him away from the Spanish capital.

With the possibility of the defensive midfielder moving on, Atletico have moved swiftly after the reopening of the transfer window, bringing in 33 year old Villarreal midfielder Ruben Cani on loan to provide back up options.

While Suarez has made 18 appearances this season and Cani does not exactly measure up to him, he is a veteran with top flight experience, and provides a more economically viable option for the cash strapped side.

As a result, Cani’s arrival could see Suarez leave, but Arsenal will have to fight off Napoli to secure his signature.

Arsenal Chase Midfield Ace For January Switch – reports

Arsenal are being tipped to make a move for Atletico Madrid midfielder Mario Suarez when the transfer window opens.

The Gunners are thought to be chasing at least one new signing when transfers are allowed again from Friday, but the likelihood is that Arsene Wenger will bring two new players to the club.

The priority for the north London side is thought to be the centre of defence, but Wenger has also told the press that he is keen to bring a midfielder to the club as well.

Spanish journalist Eduardo Inda believes that Suarez is likely to be the target that Wenger makes a move for, with a move to Arsenal on the cards.

Suarez has only been used on an irregular basis by Diego Simeone’s side this season, and therefore could be signed for a cut price fee by Wenger, which would appeal to him, given that his budget is reportedly only £20 million.
