Man Utd Set For £51m Double January Swoop – reports

Manchester United are set to carry out a double raid of Benfica in the January transfer window, capturing both Enzo Perez and Nicolas Gaitan in the process.

This will come as a shock, with Perez reportedly set to join Valencia as of yesterday.

Reports in Portugal are now suggesting, however, that the Old Trafford club are set to get their man, and also bring a teammate from Portugal with him to Manchester.

The double swoop is expected to cost Louis van Gaal’s side a grand total of £51 million, a staggering sum, according to the Daily Star.

This suggests that there will be funds available for Van Gaal to spend in January, after an extensive summer spend that saw Man Utd assemble the most expensive squad in Premier League history.

Man Utd were held to a 1-1 draw against Aston Villa on Saturday, ending their run of six wins in a row in the Premier League.

Our verdict

Man Utd could do with more options in midfield, and Gaitan would be ideal for that. Benfica’s relationship with Peter Lim’s Valencia might make this one difficult.
