Leeds Coach Praises Effects Of New Formation And Paraguayan Star

Leeds United head coach Neil Redfearn has heaped praise on the new formation used by his side in the clash with Sunderland at the weekend, according to leedsunited.com.

The Whites have primarily played a diamond formation for the majority of the campaign, but have struggled in recent weeks in the league, with many believing that the system had been found out by opponents.

As a result, Redfearn was keen to try something new in the FA Cup game on Sunday.

He therefore selected a relatively changed line-up compared to the one that lost 2-0 to Derby County in the league.

The Elland Road club also lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Casper Sloth and Brian Montenegro, who made his first start for the club, playing on the wings.

Sloth and Montenegro, who have had few opportunities under Redfearn or his predecessors, were the focus of some of his praise, along with the formation itself.

“In the Championship, you’ve got to swim in the waters that you’re in,” said the head coach.

“I think the diamond has worked to a point but we’ve turned into a bit of a one-trick pony. We’ve got to look at what we’ve got other than that.

“We played with width on Sunday and we played well. I thought Casper Sloth played well, he showed good touches and popped up in little pockets of play.

“Brian Montenegro, too. That was his debut and I thought he was excellent.

“He worked up and down, he gave us something on the left and I think if we’d have had a little bit more poke in the first half, we’d have carried more of a threat.

“But I thought in the second half we bossed it and we should have got something out of it.”

Official: Leeds Confirm Capture Of Skillful Creative International Midfielder

Leeds United have officially confirmed the signing of Danish international Casper Sloth from Arhaus, with the midfielder joining the Championship side on a 3-year deal.

Leeds’s midfield has struggled horribly in recent weeks, with their issues considered to be a big problem behind the Yorkshire side’s recent run of form. Sloth was identified as a target last week, and with his contract set to expire at Arhaus at the end of the coming season, he was seen as a realistic signing.

The 22-year-old is highly rated, but many Arhaus fans believe he has struggled slightly with the step up to the top Danish division.

He has, however, impressed on an international stage, making eight appearances for the Danish national side, showing the pedigree he possesses.

The signing will undoubtedly raise questions over the current Leeds midfield, with all of Luke Murphy, Rodolph Austin, Tommasso Bianchi and Michael Tonge struggling horribly at the weekend. Leeds lost their tie against Watford 4-1, although the scoreline could have been much greater.

Sloth could make his debut against Yorkshire rivals Bradford in the League Cup second round on Wednesday night.
