Arsenal And Liverpool Set To Do Battle For Champions League Winner – Report

Arsenal and Liverpool are reportedly set to do battle for Real Madrid full-back Alvaro Arbeloa after the ex-Spanish international declared his desire to move back to the Premier League, as reported by the Daily Star.

Arsenal are reportedly the more keen side for Arbeloa’s signature. The former Liverpool man has fallen down the pecking order under Carlo Ancelotti, who prefers Dani Carvajal. Arbeloa would find himself a squad player if he remained at the Santiago Bernabeu.

While Arbeloa would prefer to stay at Madrid and sign a new contract, he is prioritising first team football at this point in his career.

Marca have said that Jose Mourinho is interested in taking him back to Chelsea, but he has also been linked with a move back to Liverpool, who he previously spent two and a half years with. Arbeloa reportedly enjoyed his time in the Premier League significantly.

Arbeloa was left out of Spain’s World Cup squad and announced his international retirement as a result.

Chelsea Boss Refuses To Rule Out Sale Of Star Goalkeeper

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has refused to rule out the sale of Petr Cech this summer at his press conference today.

Mourinho said, regarding whether Cech would move on: “I don’t think so, but the market is open and so anything can happen.”

Cech faces significant competition for the first team place at Stamford Bridge for the first time since arriving in London, with Thibaut Courtois having returned to the club after a successful loan period at Atletico Madrid.

Courtois has since gone on to impose himself as one of the best goalkeepers in world football, and it seems likely that he will supplant Cech in the season ahead after an uncomfortable few seasons for the Czech goalkeeper.

Chelsea have added significantly in this summer’s window so far, signing Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas from Atletico Madrid and Barcelona respectively.

They have also seen significant departures on huge transfer fees. Romelu Lukaku moved to Everton earlier this week for £28 million, a record for the Goodison Park club, and David Luiz previously moved to PSG for £50 million.

Chelsea’s New Signing Says Premier League Crown Is His Aim

Returning Chelsea hero Didier Drogba has declared that the Premier League crown is his aim for the coming season, having resigned for the club where he became a legend, as reported by the club’s official website.

It has been five years since the Stamford Bridge club won the Premier League, and while they have won two European crowns in the intervening period, it is their longest spell without a league title since Roman Abramovich took over the club.

The Ivorian international has returned to Chelsea after two years away, hoping to add to his tally of 100 goals for the London club. He spent half a season with Shanghai Shenhua in China before moving to Turkish side Galatasaray, although he failed to make a significant impact there.

Drogba has now declared that he is delighted to return and reunite with the manager who first brought him to the club, and that he wants to win the league having returned.

He said: “Five years is a long time not to win the Premier League, so I want to win it. To lift the Premier League trophy is a fantastic feeling and we haven’t experienced it for a few years, it’s too long for a club like ours.

“I think the title race is going to be like it has been these last few years, all the big clubs will be involved and fighting until the end.

“There are more teams capable of winning the league, which makes it interesting in terms of pressure and different scenarios.

“I missed the Premier League, which for me is the best in the world. It’s true the German league is on the way up but the English league has been the best over the last decade and I’m really looking forward to playing the first game.”

“It’s amazing to be back, a great feeling.

“I’m happy to be back here and I’m looking forward to seeing the best fans.

“It was an easy decision to make, it’s very difficult to say no to Jose and to Chelsea. I have so many good memories with the club so when the opportunity came up it was easy for me.”
