Everton Boss Admits To Missing Out On Man Utd’s 25-Year-Old Dynamo

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has admitted that the Goodison Park club missed out on the signature of Manchester United midfield misfit Tom Cleverley this summer, and saw their target make a loan switch to Aston Villa instead, as reported by the Daily Express.

The England international had been targeted by Martinez in a bid to improve his side for the Europa League, but the move did not come to fruition for the former Wigan Athletic boss.

Martinez did, in fact, have Cleverley on loan at Wigan while he was manager there, and the midfielder impressed with the Latics before becoming a part of Man Utd’s first team.

Cleverley has become something of a figure of humour at Man Utd since his return to the club, with many doubting his ability. Martinez clearly thought he could improve a side that will be looking to finish above the Old Trafford club this season.

Regarding the failed move, he said: “Always on the last day of the transfer window opportunities arise and we looked at a couple.

“I felt it was an opportunity for us to add a player to bring something different but at the end it wasn’t right. It didn’t work out.

“We tried to look into a couple of opportunities, but they didn’t come off and the reality is they probably weren’t the right ones.”

Chelsea Target PL Rival Wing Wonderkid

Chelsea are targeting Aston Villa’s young starlet Jack Grealish after his contract talks with the Midlands club stalled, as reported by the Daily Star.

The west London club are keen on the winger’s signature, and this puts Villa in a difficult situation regarding his future, and puts doubts on their ability to get him to commit to a new deal.

Chelsea have made repeat attempts to sign Grealish in the past, but have never been able to convince him to leave Villa Park and move to Stamford Bridge. They have watched him repeatedly over the years, but never managed to move any deal forward.

His contract talks look as though they may be on the cusp of failure, although Villa have offered Grealish a new deal worth in the region of £5,000 a week.

While Grealish is keen to stay, as a lifelongfan of Aston Villa, the club will probably have to increase their offer to keep hold of him, especially with Chelsea waiting to blow Villa out of the water with a much higher deal than his current club can muster.

Grealish, having stayed with Aston Villa this season, has made three appearances for the side. He spent last season on loan with Notts County and made his debut for Paul Lambert’s side in May.

Former Leeds Utd Starlet Set To Make 1st England Start – Reports

Former Leeds United starlet Fabian Delph is set to make his first start for England against Switzerland tonight, as reported by Oliver Kay of The Times.

Delph departed Elland Road for Aston Villa in the summer of 2009, but many Leeds fans still hold significant affection for the club’s former midfielder. He is considered by most to be one of the more talented players to emerge from the club’s academy in recent years, and there is a notable sadness that he never got the opportunity to do more for the Yorkshire side.

While his display against Norway on Wednesday last week was not exceptionally mind-blowing, England did look like a better side after he was brought on, and it seems as though the injury suffered by Daniel Sturridge has given him an opportunity to impose himself on the first team.

Delph’s introduction is likely to come as part of a switch to a 4-3-3, going away from Hodgson’s preferred 4-2-3-1 of recent months.

Raheem Sterling will have to play a key role for the national side in Monday’s game if they are to pick up a victory.
