Man Utd Boost In Chase For Solid Defender – reports

Manchester United have been handed a huge boost in their chase for Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar.

The Old Trafford club could sign the Dutch defender in January after Villa boss Paul Lambert started looking for replacements in defence, as reported by the Daily Mirror.

Vlaar is out of contract with the Midlands club at the end of the season, and there is little indication that he will sign a new contract with them between now and the end of the campaign.

Man Utd boss Louis van Gaal is thought to be a fan of Vlaar, and the Red Devils have been consistently linked with a move for him in order to fix their defence, which has suffered since the start of the season.

Defensive woe is probably the only thing standing between Van Gaal and a true title challenge, and an experienced and strong head like Vlaar at the back would likely improve their options going forward.

He could also be captured for a reasonable price, especially if Lambert is willing to cut him loose in order to get some of his value back to avoid losing him on a free transfer.
