Liverpool And Arsenal To Miss Out On 19-Year-Old Wonderkid – reports

Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea could miss out on Southampton wonderkid Matt Targett after it was revealed that the player is in negotiations over a new contract with the south coast club, as reported by the Daily Star.

The young star is considered a possible future replacement for the recently departed Luke Shaw, and his representatives are now in negotiations over confirming a new long term deal for him to stay at the St. Mary’s side.

The likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea have all previously been credited with an interest in the left back, and this news will likely come as a blow to them.

Targett’s representative Leon Callender said: “We are in discussions over a new contract.

“He is in the right place.”

There are still hurdles for Southampton to overcome if they want to keep Targett, however.

The youngster has reportedly been promised game time for the first team this season, but Ronald Koeman has, thus far, preferred Chelsea loanee Ryan Bertrand in his place.

Southampton’s academy has developed something of a reputation in recent years, with several graduates plying their trade at top Premier League sides.
