Arsenal are targeting the signature of Napoli’s Chile international Eduardo Vargas, according to reports in the Daily Express.
The 24-year-old is a winger who is equally comfortable in a more advanced role, and had a sensational second half of the season on loan with Valencia last season, scoring six goals in only 17 appearances for the Spanish side.
He has, however, struggled since moving to Napoli in 2012. 19 games in Serie A have brought him no goals, and he has been farmed out twice on loan as a result. The suggestion is that a move to the Emirates Stadium would be under the same terms, showing Wenger’s unwillingness to commit wholeheartedly to a fully fledged gamble.
Vargas was, however, also on form as Valencia made their way to the semi-finals of the Europa League last season, scoring a further two goals and making three assists as Los Che came close to European honours.
