Liverpool Dealt Blow In Chase For €11.6M Wing Wizard

Liverpool have been dealt a blow in their chase for Bayern Munich midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri, after the Swiss international accepted defeat in his quest to get a transfer away from the German giants, as reported by the Daily Star.

The Anfield club were consistently linked with a move for the diminutive winger during the summer months, with little clear competition for his signature.

Shaqiri was also particularly keen on a move, suggesting that the transfer would be relatively simple for Brendan Rodgers’s side to complete.

However, Bayern have been insistent that they will not let the former Basel player move on, and see him as an important part of their squad.

As a result, the transfer never came to fruition, and it now seems as though Shaqiri will no longer agitate for a move away.

He has said that he will have to make the best of a bad situation and try and work his way back into the side.

Shaqiri said: “I’ve still got a contract until 2016 and the club have already told me I won’t be going anywhere so I’ve just got to accept that.

“For as long as I am here, I will give everything I’ve got.

“I try to do my best in training and when the coach rewards me with appearances, like today against Hannover, then that’s even better.

“I’m always delighted when I can start games, and I show that too, like I did this time.

“I think everybody could see how hungry I am to play football.”

Liverpool Boost After Tricky 22-Year-Old Target’s Agent Hints At January Move

Liverpool could target their summer interest Xherdan Shaqiri again in the coming January transfer window, with the player’s agent suggesting that the Swiss superstar is interested in leaving his current club, Bayern Munich, in the winter window, as reported by The Metro.

Shaqiri is considered to be one of the best young wingers in Europe, but has failed to establish himself in Bayern’s first team since moving there from Basel two seasons ago. With Arjen Robben ahead of him on his preferred right wing, opportunities have been limited for the diminutive trickster.

The 22 year old was heavily linked with a switch to Merseyside this summer, and there has been an admittance that the Reds made bids for him. He opted to stay, however.

His agent has not left it there, however, and feels as though the player will need to reassess his future come January, depending on his involvement at the Bundesliga champions over the coming months.

Erdin Shaqiri said: “Now he was not released, but there is a repeat in the winter, and we will look at how many games Xherdan will have played by then.”
