Man Utd Line Up £18m Bid To Steal Liverpool Target – reports

Manchester United are set to line up an £18 million bid for Bayern Munich star Xherdan Shaqiri, putting them in direct competition with fierce rivals Liverpool, as reported by the Daily Star.

Shaqiri has been unhappy at Bayern for an extended period of time and looked to depart the Bavarian side in the summer.

However, the German giants blocked a move away from the club for the winger, who is highly regarded by the club’s hierarchy.

Liverpool were one of the sides that made a bid, and they believed they had secured the transfer at one point.

Bayern would not sanction a switch, but assured Shaqiri that he would play more football.

He’s been disappointed, however, starting only one game for Pep Guardiola’s side.

As a result, he is considering his future again and will hold talks with officials in the new year.

Man Utd are now looking to snatch the forward from under Liverpool’s noses.

Louis van Gaal is keen that the side match Bayern’s £18 million valuation of the player.

Tricky Forward: I Wanted Liverpool Switch

Bayern Munich forward Xherdan Shaqiri has admitted that he wanted to make the switch to Liverpool during the summer, as reported by the Daily Star.

The Reds were consistently linked with the player during the summer months, and it emerged over time that they had made bids in an attempt to bring him to Merseyside.

The player’s representatives even met with Liverpool to thrash out a deal, which would have cost the Anfield club an estimated £15 million to push through.

The 23 year old Swiss superstar was also keen on the move, and came close to agreeing a long term contract.

However, Bayern suddenly suffered a change of heart.

As a result, the German champions blocked the switch, despite having agreed a deal for the player with Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Shaqiri has since admitted that he had hoped to kickstart his career in the Premier League with Liverpool.

He told German newspaper Blick, when asked about Liverpool: “It was known that I wanted to do something in the summer.

“After the World Cup I felt that it would be better for me to try something new.

“I thought of a change and had a lot of requests.

“Then FC Bayern decided that I should stay. In that case, you cannot do much as a player. But I feel very good at Munich, too.”

22-Year-Old Superstar To Inform Liverpool About Possible January Move

Bayern Munich’s misfit wide man Xherdan Shaqiri has said that he will reassess his futureat the Bundesliga champions when the January transfer window reopens, despite the fact that the German club have been insistent that the player will not be departing in the near future, as reported by the Daily Express.

There was significant interest in the Swiss international winger in the summer, with the suggestion being that the player would be available for a move.

He even attempted to push through a move during the summer months, but Bayern refused to budge, refusing to let the player depart.

This was the case despite the fact that Shaqiri played only 17 times in the Bundesliga for Bayern last season.

Shaqiri has struggled to establish a permanent first team berth with Pep Guardiola’s side since his move from Basel.

While he remains convinced that Bayern control his future, Liverpool, who made a bid for the player in the summer and were hopeful of pushing through a move, will take positives from the fact that the trickster is set to reconsider his future in the winter.

Shaqiri said: “I was looking for more first team action this season, everyone knows that.

“We had a sit down and discussed things with Bayern Munich. I received a clear message: I have to stay. I accepted that.

“We will have a look at things again in the winter. We will have to figure things out.

“I have a long-term deal at Bayern Munich so it is the club that will decide.

“If the club does not want to sell me or let me go, then that is positive news for me.”
