Liverpool Move For Global Star Closer To Completion – reports

Liverpool’s move for former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes has moved another step closer to completion, with Spanish outlet AS reporting that the player is on the cusp of undergoing a medical with the Anfield club.

Should Valdes pass the medical, it is expected that he will agree a deal to join the Reds.

Liverpool have been consistently linked with a move for the Spanish stopper, despite having not looked to recruit another goalkeeper in the summer.

Current first choice, Simon Mignolet, has failed to impress since the start of the new season, and that may have impacted upon Brendan Rodgers’s thinking.

The only competition between the sticks available to the manager in the squad is Brad Jones, who has never proven himself to be up to Premier League standard.

Valdes agreed a move to Monaco last season, and let his contract with Barcelona expire as a result.

However, he suffered an injury late in the campaign, with Monaco cancelling the deal as a result.

Therefore, Liverpool have a chance to pounce, although they clearly want to do their research on the player’s fitness before committing to what would be an expensive move.

Liverpool To Step Up Chase Of Global Star With Medical Tests Soon

Liverpool are set to step up their chase for former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes, with manager Brendan Rodgers planning to sign the goalkeeper if he can prove that he has fully recovered from the knee injury he suffered at the end of last season, as reported by the Daily Express.

Spain international Valdes is available on a free transfer, having allowed his Barcelona contract to expire at the end of last season.

Liverpool have been consistently been linked with a move for the goalkeeper since a move to AS Monaco collapsed.

The French club pulled out of an agreement shortly after Valdes suffered the injury.

It has now been reported that Valdes is set to undergo medical tests in the next few weeks, and should he pass them, Rodgers would sanction a move for the globally renowned goalkeeper.

The need for a new goalkeeper at Liverpool has become more pressing in recent weeks, with current incumbent Simon Mignolet having conceded eight goals in the last five games.

Liverpool Wait On PL Approval For Move For Stunning Star

Liverpool will need to wait for Premier League approval to see whether they can sign former Barcelona star Victor Valdes, as reported by the Daily Star.

Valdes is a free agent after leaving the Camp Nou at the end of last season, although he has not yet found a club to join.

Despite agreeing a deal with AS Monaco prior to his departure, this move was cancelled because of a cruciate knee ligament tear that he suffered in March.

While Valdes is not yet fully fit, Liverpool have expressed an interest in signing him, with current first choice Simon Mignolet struggling for form.

With only Brad Jones in reserve, Brendan Rodgers is keen on Valdes, who would offer a high quality alternative to the Belgian international goalkeeper.

However, his registration would require Premier League approval.

In order to change a squad prior to the winter window, league chiefs have to approve a special application.

Liverpool’s squad has only 19 senior players, so they have space for Valdes, but they still require approval.
