Leeds Defensive Stalwart Agrees 3-Year Deal With Yorkshire Rivals – Reports

Leeds United defender Tom Lees has reportedly agreed a three year deal with Sheffield Wednesday, ahead of a reported move to the Owls, as tweeted by Sky Sports journalist Graeme Bailey.

A move for Lees was first mooted yesterday, and despite him travelling with Leeds to Swindon Town yesterday, the deal seems to have progressed.

Phil Hay of the Yorkshire Evening Post also suggested earlier today that the move would go through with no transfer fee exchanged between the two clubs, despite Lees having time left to run on his contract.

Lees has been a consistent presence in Leeds’s sides for the last few seasons, but has been deemed surplus to requirements by the new regime.

Leeds are reportedly in the market for a new central defender, with Chesterfield defender Liam Cooper being linked with a £500k transfer. Nicola Salerno, Leeds’s sporting director, was impressed by Cooper’s display in Chesterfield’s friendly clash with Leeds.

Sheffield Wednesday Target Leeds United’s Oft-Criticised Defender

Phil Hay of the Yorkshire Evening Post is reporting that Leeds United academy graduate Tom Lees has piqued the interest of Yorkshire Championship rivals Sheffield Wednesday.

The defender has become a stalwart of the team in recent seasons, having previously undergone a series of loan spells. He won promotion with Bury from League Two.

He was, however, regularly criticised by fans last season for his displays, and there is a sense that he may no longer be first choice at Elland Road. Scott Wootton and Jason Pearce began Leeds’s last pre-season tie as the preferred duo in defence, and they have continued that partnership into tonight’s clash with Swindon Town.

Lees has, however, travelled with the rest of the squad to tonight’s game.

Leeds have spent the summer looking for new defensive recruits. Jonathan Rossini seemed on the cusp of a move from Italy, but the move collapsed after he trained with Leeds in Val Gardena.
