Chelsea Legend Advises Current First Choice Shot Stopper

Chelsea legend Petr Cech has been advising his rival for the first team shirt Thibaut Courtois, with the hope of helping him protect himself from further harm in the future, as reported by the Daily Star.

The Belgian international revealed that the former first choice wanted to ensure that he was safer in the future.

Courtois featured against Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday as the Blues won 2-1, the first game that he had played for the Stamford Bridge club since suffering a suspected concussion in a previous match.

Cech is well aware of the problems surrounding head injuries suffered by goalkeepers, having suffered a sickening clash in 2006 which fractured his skull.

Since that game, Cech has been forced to wear protective headgear, and does not want his replacement to suffer the same fate.

As a result, Courtois has revealed that Cech has been giving him advice, saying: “Petr sent me a message after the Arsenal game and later he told me that in the Premier League maybe some strikers really go against the keepers.

“He said maybe sometimes it is better to protect your head to go down quicker and with your back or your shoulder protecting your head.

“That was a tip he gave me and it’s good because, when you come into a new league sometimes things are different than in Spain so it’s good to know that.

“Is it more physical here? Yeah. In Spain there is more organisation, maybe more football, while here maybe some teams are going quicker with the long ball and rushing it to the front.

“But it depends on the team you are playing against. But I think the difference is maybe it is more physical.

“Maybe the referees don’t whistle as quickly as they do in Spain.”

PL Rival Star Hails 22-Year-Old Chelsea Talent As One Of World’s Best

Aston Villa goalkeeper Brad Guzan has heaped praise on Chelsea star Thibaut Courtois, calling him one of the world’s best, as reported by the Daily Star.

This season has seen Courtois replace Chelsea stalwart Petr Cech in net for the Stamford Bridge club.

Courtois’ reputation has developed over the last few seasons, when he spent three years on loan with Spanish club Atletico Madrid.

The goalkeeper was part of a spell of immense success at the side, with the Madrid club winning the Europa League, the Super Cup, the Copa del Rey and La Liga over his time with the team.

The La Liga win was particularly exceptional, given the relative resources of Atletico compared to their divisional rivals Barcelona and local rivals Real Madrid.

With the Belgian stopper now plying his trade back in the Premier League, Guzan, who plays for Chelsea’s next opponents Villa, has praised Courtois heavily.

He said: “He’s someone who I believe is one of the top five goalkeepers in the world.

“Thibaut’s resume is outstanding. His accolades for the past few seasons at Atletico speak for itself, with Belgium too.

“He’s only 22 so these things are unbelievable. He’s a top, top keeper and someone Chelsea sees their future with.

“There’s nothing better that having the confidence of the manager and coaching staff.

“You want to be dependable and the guy the lads look to if an opposition player gets through the defence.

“You want them thinking that you’re going to come up with the goods and make a save at the vital time. You want that responsibility.

“You relish that opportunity to be number one – be the guy that’s going to hopefully help the team. That’s what it’s all about.”

Title Winning Chelsea Prospect Agrees New Long Term Deal With Club

Thibaut Courtois has agreed a new five year contract with west London club Chelsea, as reported by the club’s official website.

Having replaced Petr Cech to become the club’s new first choice keeper this season, the Stamford Bridge club clearly saw it as important that they tied Courtois down to a new agreement.

The Belgian international goalkeeper impressed considerably while on loan at Atletico Madrid for several years, even playing a role as the Spanish club progressed past Chelsea in last season’s Champions League.

Courtois has come to be regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in world football today, especially after performing excellently regularly last season as the Madrid club won an unlikely La Liga title, pipping the vastly better resourced Real Madrid and Barcelona to the crown.

They also reached the final of the Champions League, and were it not for a last minute equaliser in normal time from Sergio Ramos, they would have also won that.

Courtois said, regarding his new deal: “I’m very happy with this new deal, it’s really nice to have signed this new contract for five years.

“My future was already sorted but it’s nice to know I’m going to be here for another five years and now I can just concentrate on playing games.”
