Liverpool Skipper On FA Cup: I Want To Go ‘All The Way’

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard told the television reporter interviewing him after the third round FA Cup clash against AFC Wimbledon that he wants his side to go all the way in the competition.

Gerrard was integral as the Anfield club progressed to the fourth round of the competition, scoring both of their goals.

He scored a header in the opening stages of the clash, but saw his team pegged back in the latter part of the first half, conceding a goal from a set piece, one of Brendan Rodgers’ teams great weaknesses this season.

However, when push came to shove, Gerrard stepped up and provided the winning goal for his team.

Liverpool were awarded a free kick on the edge of the area, and he bent it past the diving Wimbledon goalkeeper to put his side back into the lead.

Gerrard is now exceptionally keen to win the trophy, with the final set to occur on his birthday in May.

He said: “It’s going to be my last time, so I want to make the most of it and go all the way.”

Liverpool Captain Snubs £18m Move – reports

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has snubbed a sensational £18 million move to take him to Qatar at the end of the season, as reported by the Daily Mirror.

The original report, which ran in The Sun, suggested that the midfielder had been approached by Qatari side Al Gharafa, one of the country’s more wealthy football teams, in an attempt to bring him to the host nation of the 2018 World Cup.

As part of their plans to tempt him to the Middle East, they were willing to pay Gerrard more than £170,000 a week over two years, which totals over £18 million.

Despite Al Gharafa offering him far more than he would earn in America, he is set to snub them in favour of joining American side LA Galaxy.

Part of the reasoning behind that is the fact that the lifestyle in California appeals to Gerrard and would be better suited to his children.

‘Saviour’: Liverpool Fans Question Gerrard’s Departure After Display In FA Cup

Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to express their sadness at the imminent departure of Steven Gerrard after his exceptional display against AFC Wimbledon in the third round of the FA Cup.

The Reds were put ahead by Gerrard in the opening stages of the game, heading home under dangerous circumstances.

However, Wimbledon equalised after typically poor defending from the Anfield club from a set piece, undoubtedly one of their weaknesses this campaign and last under Brendan Rodgers.

It was up to Gerrard to rescue Liverpool once again, taking his total of goals scored in his last two games to four goals, having also bagged a brace in the Premier League clash against Leicester City.

He stepped up to a free kick just outside the box, whipping it over the wall.

Despite further pressure from Wimbledon, Liverpool ultimately held on, and they have their captain to credit for progress to the next round.

Fans reacted, questioning why Gerrard is going to leave.
