Former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen has been targeted by Major League Soccer side Philadelphia Union as they step up their search for a new coach, as reported by Here Is The City.

Meulensteen was highly regarded during his time at Old Trafford, working as the assistant manager to Alex Ferguson at times and helping him plot the successes of the last days of his regime.

The Dutch boss departed the club with the arrival of David Moyes, who decided against retaining any of the former coaching staff of the club. Moyes struggled while in charge, and the club ultimately finished seventh after he was sacked.

Meulensteen then moved on to Fulham, where he was tasked with keeping them in the Premier League. Despite a sensational 2-2 draw against his former side Man Utd at Old Trafford, Meulensteen was dismissed after only a few months in the role to be replaced by Felix Magath.
