Magical Teammate Says Liverpool Wonderkid Will Be CL Star

Liverpool’s Phillipe Coutinho has said that Raheem Sterling will be one of the stars of the Anfield club’s European campaign, with the club set to take part in the Champions League for the first time in since 2009 this week, as reported by the Daily Mirror.

Brendan Rodgers leads his troops into the competition for the first time as a manager, with the Reds hosting Ludogorets at Anfield this week.

The club also face a milestone, with this week being the 50th anniversary of the first time that the club ever hosted a European tie, during the glory days of the 1960s.

Sterling has started the new season in stunning form, although he was started on the bench for Liverpool’s 1-0 loss against Aston Villa in the Premier League on Saturday. Manager Rodgers is fearful that the youngster could suffer burnout if he is overused because of his immense talent.

Coutinho, however, has backed him to perform on Europe’s grandest stage.

“It is likely that Raheem Sterling will be one of the stars in Europe for Liverpool,” said Coutinho.

“Raheem is having a very good time at the moment and is in very good shape, so I believe he will do well this season. Like me, Raheem wants to attack defenders, but the difference between us is that he is very, very fast. I definitely don’t have the speed to catch Raheem!

“I am not surprised at all by his performances. We are training together every day and I know his potential.”

How This Former Liverpool Hero Helped The Club Capture Speedy Sensation

It has been revealed that former Liverpool hero Fernando Torres helped the club capture Raheem Sterling when he joined the club in 2010, with former manager Rafa Benitez saying that the Spanish star played a key role, as reported by the Daily Mail.

Sterling was under contract with Queens Park Rangers before moving to Anfield, and the club needed to do some convincing to make him leave the club where he was playing as a schoolboy.

The young England international then ran into Fernando Torres while being shown around Liverpool’s Melwood training ground, and Benitez is convinced that Torres’s encouragement was important to Sterling signing.

The former Reds boss said: “Fernando was there – and I think Steven Gerrard, too. But definitely Fernando.

I explained what Raheem and his mum were doing and I told Fernando what we thought of the young player we had brought in.

“He had a quick chat with him, asking how he was getting on. He was interested in him.

“Raheem was really pleased – and you could see his mum was, too – really impressed that the club’s biggest players had made a fuss of him.

“It was strange for me to show the young players around because in Spain, the manager doesn’t go around with new players, even younger ones. But I think they appreciated that we, all of us, had taken time to speak to them. Torres and Gerrard really were the big players in our team at that time.

“As the manager, it was a great for me to have them around.”

The talented young dribbler, who cost Liverpool only £400,000 to sign four years ago, has been in sensational form since the start of the new season, having played a key role for the side as they pushed for an unlikely title challenge last season.

Liverpool lost 1-0 to Aston Villa yesterday, although Sterling started on the bench.

Boss: 19-Year-Old Liverpool Wonderkid Will Still Be A Star In Ten Years

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has backed himself to ensure that Raheem Sterling, who has emerged as an absolute sensation in the last year, will not suffer the fate of many other young English stars and face burnout before reaching the peak of his game, as reported by the Daily Mail.

Despite Sterling’s incredible form since the start of the season, Rodgers has said that he will have to avoid selecting him too much, in an attempt to avoid Sterling playing too many games at a young age.

He said: “Some managers would take the stance of “I don’t care” because you might only be in a job for three, four, five years, so make sure he plays as much as he can.

“But I think it is critical that, in 10 years’ time, he is approaching his peak, as opposed to having played his best games.

“When he gets to 28 and if he has too many miles on the clock and he is burned out, that is something we will have to look at.

“As a club, we have managed him quite well but it is hard when you are such a good player and you keep performing and both your club and your country need you.”

Liverpool face a tough task today against Aston Villa, who they have not beaten at Anfield since 2012. Last year saw Steven Gerrard struggle against a strong counter pressing game from Paul Lambert’s side.

Villa have also started the season in good form, winning two of their games and drawing with Newcastle United. They signed Tom Cleverley on a season long loan from Manchester United on deadline day.
