Arsenal Behemoth Reveals Side’s Woes With The Ball

Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker has revealed his side’s problems since the start of the season, which have seen the north London club slump to only five wins in their opening 14 games, as reported by the Daily Star.

The Gunners managed a late 2-1 win against Belgian side Anderlecht last night, having trailed going into the 89th minute of the encounter.

The victory has put the Gunners into a comfortable position to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League, having thrashed Galatasaray in the previous match at home.

However, Arsenal have struggled in the Premier League, and Mertesacker has revealed why he thinks that is the case.

Mertesacker said: “Everyone knows that it was a difficult start for us and our confidence is not that much how we wanted it.

“The character is good, the mentality is good, but football-wise, we lack a few things.

“Our passing game is not as efficient as last year.

“We are not at our best. We have to admit that, be honest with ourselves and train harder.”

Mertesacker himself has not been in perfect form since the start of the season, and was culpable for Steve Bruce’s Hull City side taking the lead when they visited the Emirates at the weekend.

While the Gunners ultimately managed a draw in that game, it was still a disappointing result.

Arsenal Giant Declaration: We Can Beat Chelsea

Arsenal’s gigantic defender Per Mertesacker has declared that the north London side can beat their opposition Chelsea this weekend, despite the west London club’s sensational form thus far this season, as reported by the Daily Star.

Having suffered a huge 6-0 loss at Stamford Bridge last season, it would be unsurprising if Arsene Wenger’s troops were cautious going into Sunday’s game, but Mertesacker seems convinced that his side can avenge that defeat and get a huge result.

Wenger’s side have significant more confidence than they would have done if the game had been a week earlier, having demolished Turkish side Galatasaray in the Champions League last night.

The 4-1 victory at the Emirates Stadium was inspired by new signing Danny Welbeck, who scored three to get his first ever senior hat trick.

Mertesacker is of the belief that the result last night will inspire the squad ahead of the game against their Premier League rivals, and could give them the boost that they require to get their revenge on Jose Mourinho’s side.

He said: “Obviously it’s a good lift.

“We’ve got good confidence at the moment and will try and implement that into the game on Sunday.

“We know we can do better than the two consecutive seasons before and I think we’ll try new things on Sunday to get a better result than last year.”

4 Reasons Why Community Shield Win Shows Arsenal Could Win PL

Arsenal’s dominating display in the Community Shield clash against Manchester City yesterday has got the Gunners faithful excited for the coming season, with many now believing that the north London club can now make a concerted tilt at the Premier League title, with the hope being that they can win it for the first time since 2004.

Wenger’s Arsenal side have been consistent challengers for the last 10 years, but they have never truly threatened to win it. Their recent lack of spending power as a result of the Emirates Stadium build has hindered them somewhat in recruitment, but this no longer seems to be an issue.

While the Community Shield game is only a friendly, in principle, it was a fairly hotly contested game between two top Premier League sides. Click the images below and run through the gallery to reveal four reasons why yesterday’s win suggests Arsenal could yet be true challengers this season.
