Liverpool Told To Beat Chelsea To 21-Year-Old Midfield Ace

Liverpool have been told by former hero Michael Owen to beat the likes of Chelsea to the signing of Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba in the coming transfer windows.

Pogba is arguably one of the most highly rated young talents in world football today, and backed up that belief by winning the young player award at this summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

He left Manchester United in 2012, after not being given enough opportunities to play under Alex Ferguson.

Since then, he has been consistently linked with a move back to the Premier League, with Chelsea generally the club most linked with a move.

Liverpool’s former hero Owen, who was at Old Trafford between 2009 and 2012, when Pogba was emerging as a highly talented young player, believes that the French international should be brought to the club as a replacement for Steven Gerrard.

Speaking on BT Sport, Owen said: “Steven Gerrard’s not going to go on forever so the ideal replacement there would probably be someone like Paul Pogba at Juventus.

“He’s an exceptional talent, a young talent that can play in that drive an central midfield role.”

Pogba and Juventus lost the Italian Super Cup on penalties to Napoli last night in Doha.

Our verdict

Owen sometimes gets things wrong as a pundit, but he’s spot on here – Pogba would immediately improve Liverpool’s midfield and give them a player to build on for the next decade.

Arsenal To Wage War With Chelsea Over £40m Midfield Dynamo – reports

Arsenal are set to make a stunning swoop for Juventus’ £40 million rated midfield dynamo Paul Pogba.

The Gunners are preparing themselves to wage war with both Manchester City and Chelsea, who are reported to be interested in the player.

However, Arsene Wenger has now apparently identified the ultra-talented young star as the ideal option for his midfield.

Wenger and the north London side have chased a series of targets since the summer, including Real Madrid’s Sami Khedira.

Undoubtedly, however, the signing of Pogba would be the most inspiring choice Wenger could make.

The 21 year old won the young player of the tournament award at the summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

He has also established himself at Juve since moving there from Manchester United, winning consecutive Serie A championships under former boss Antonio Conte.

In signing Pogba, Wenger would certainly be bringing in a midfield player who could operate at the heart of any Arsenal side for a long time into the future.

Man City To Beat Man Utd To £39.6m Midfield Dynamo – reports

Manchester City could pip their city rivals Manchester United to the signature of 21 year old Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba.

The Sun are reporting that the Etihad Stadium club are interested in bringing in the French international.

While Yaya Toure has improved his form recently, he was criticised earlier in the season for his poor performances.

At 31 years old, he no longer represents a long term option for Manuel Pellegrini’s side, and as a result, City are chasing Pogba as his replacement.

This will come as something of a blow to Man Utd, who were repeatedly linked with a move for Pogba in the summer.

The Juve star began his career with Man Utd, but left after failing to receive any first team opportunities under Alex Ferguson.

He would likely relish the opportunity to join Man Utd’s rivals, especially if he could contribute to them finishing above the Old Trafford club in the Premier League for the third season of the last four.

Pogba was valued at £39.6 million in the summer.
