4th Time Lucky? Spurs And Arsenal To Go To War For Midfield Maestro – reports

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly plotting yet another bid for Southampton’s midfield machine Morgan Schneiderlin, their fourth since the transfer window opened this summer, as reported by the Daily Mirror.

The Saints have already been defiant in rejecting three bids for their important midfielder, but Spurs feel as though they can secure the signing of a player who developed considerably during current Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino’s time at the south coast club.

Southampton have previously suggested that it would cost a club more than the fee that took Luke Shaw to Old Trafford to sign Schneiderlin, which means the north London club would be looking at a fee of over £27 million to sign him.

It will not be easy for Spurs, however, as city rivals Arsenal are also known to be interested, with Arsene Wenger thought to be a big fan of the Southampton player.

However, there is no indication that Southampton are keen to sell, and Ronald Koeman sees him as a key part of his side, who currently sit fourth in the league.

Spurs And Arsenal Boost As £27m+ Midfield Maestro’s Boss Won’t Look Past January

Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal have received a boost in their chase for Morgan Schneiderlin, as Southampton manager Ronaldo Koeman has refused to look beyond January for Schneiderlin’s future at the south coast club, as reported by the Daily Star.

Despite Schneiderlin declaring his desire to depart St. Mary’s this summer, the club managed to retain him as the club faced an exodus of talent elsewhere. Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren and Luke Shaw all left the club, with three joining Liverpool.

Former Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino is a known admirer of Schneiderlin, and Spurs have been heavily linked with a move for him.

Arsenal also emerged as a shock destination for the midfielder at one point, and this resulted in Southampton slapping a huge price tag on the player, clarifying that they wanted more than the £27m Man Utd paid for Shaw.

While Schneiderlin stayed, Koeman has refused to confirm that the French international will stay for the long term.

He said: “We will see what happens in January. For now all I am focused on is the game against Newcastle on Saturday.”

Midfield Maestro Still Not Over Failed Move To Arsenal Or Spurs

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur target Morgan Schneiderlin is still not over his failed move to the north London clubs, and while he is not keen on complaining any further, would probably be willing to move if the opportunity were to arise again, as reported by The Metro.

Schneiderlin’s mooted move away from Southampton turned into one of the longer running transfer sagas of the summer transfer window, with the midfield maestro publicly declaring his interest in a move away from the south coast club.

Discussions with Ronald Koeman and a staunch stance from the club about his availability saw him remain at St. Mary’s, one of few of their top talents not to take part in a considerable exodus from the club.

Despite the fact that he is clearly not over the failure of his move, he is still happy to remain at Southampton and stressed that he will play for the club that he still feels he owes a lot to, having joined them while they were in League One.

Schneiderlin said: “My situation was simple: at the end of the season my goal was to take the next step and join a club playing in the Champions League or the Europa League.

“There were offers on the table but Southampton made a clear choice, which was to keep me after the departure of certain players. They look to me for the future.

“I was ‘blocked’ but I must accept that because I have three years remaining on my contract. I could not afford to make a fuss and not play. I owe a lot to Southampton, who enabled me to make the France national team.

“I could not afford to go and clash with supporters who have always been cool with me. It would not have been cool for me to end up in an endless showdown.”
