Martin Odegaard is likely to join either Liverpool or Arsenal if he chooses to move to the Premier League during the January transfer window, as reported by the Daily Express.
However, there is no guarantee that he will wind up in England when the window slams shut at the end of the month.
Odegaard is currently touring Europe, visiting many of the continent’s top clubs as he chooses where he will move from Stromsgodset.
Two of the clubs he has already visited are Liverpool and Arsenal, and the 16 year old is known to be a boyhood fan of the Anfield club.
He has also been linked with the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea.
However, Norwegian journalist Marius Skelbaek believes that should he move to England, he will end up at either the Emirates Stadium or Anfield.
Bayern Munich and Real are, however, thought to be leading the race for him.
Skelbaek said: “I think he is going to be sold this month because his club needs the money and he only has one year left on his contract.
“I think maybe Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are leading the race to sign him, and the latest rumour is that Martin is going to visit the Dutch talent industry this month, clubs like Ajax.
“Dutch football could suit him right now and a lot of young players from Denmark and Sweden go to clubs like Ajax, Feyenoord or PSV and do great.
“But it is possible he will move to England. He has been visiting all the big clubs in the Premier League. He is a big Liverpool fan. They are his and his father’s favourite club.
“So who knows? Maybe he could sign for Arsenal, Liverpool, Bayern Munich or Real Madrid.”
Ajax are expected to win the race to sign Stromgodset midfield wizard Martin Odegaard, dealing a blow to Liverpool and Manchester City, both of whom have chased the Norwegian international heavily.
The 16-year-old wonderkid spent time training with Liverpool during December, and was also invited to take a tour of City’s exceptional new £200 million training complex.
Premier League rivals Southampton, who are also challenging for the Champions League, were also thought to be keen.
However, in the end it was the promise of first team football that won out for Odegaard, with Ajax promising him that he will receive opportunities faster than at other clubs interested in him, as reported by the Daily Star.
Odegaard and his father are believed to be fearful that a move to the Premier League would see him miss out on opportunities for senior football.
Ajax have a renowned youth system, and often provide opportunities to young stars.
Bayern Munich were the previous favourites, but seem to have dropped off.
Arsenal and Liverpool will be snubbed by Norwegian wonderkid Martin Odegaard, with the Stromsgodset star instead choosing to sign for German giants Bayern Munich.
Reports in Germany now suggest that the 15 year old is set to take up an offer from Bayern to sign him.
The Bundesliga champions hosted Odegaard this week, with the player training with their side.
While the same occurred at both Arsenal and Liverpool, it now seems as though Odegaard preferred his time with Pep Guardiola’s side.
The news will come as a hammerblow to Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool, who seemed to have the best chance of capturing Odegaard.
He is known to be a childhood fan of the Reds, which should have tempted him into signing for them.
Odegaard is a record holder, as the youngest player to appear in a senior European Championships qualifier.
He was 15 years and 300 days old when he made his Norway debut in the competition in October.
Odegaard turns 16 tomorrow and can pen a professional deal from then on.
