Leverkusen expect Emre Can to sign for Liverpool

@awinehouse1

Liverpool’s continued interest in Bayer Leverkusen’s Emre Can is set to pay off, with Stefan Klüttermann of the Rheinischen Post reporting that the German side expect him to join Liverpool in the near future.

Leverkusen are apparently braced for a €12 million bid that they would find almost impossible to reject. It would be more than double what they paid Bayern Munich for him only a summer ago.

The versatile player, who can operate both in midfield and across the entire back line, would be an invaluable addition to a Reds squad gearing up for the heavy test of a Champions League campaign.

Brendan Rogers’ close relationship with Can’s agent has apparently aided the swift nature of this business.

He would likely be seen as a successor to Gerrard in the deep-lying playmaker role, given both his talents and his young age, and Gerrard’s relative inexperience in the role. Gerrard, however, did operate well when played there this season, so the future may be in mind when discussing Can’s role.

Having represented Germany at most youth levels, Can hopes to find his way into their national side in the near future, eschewing his Turkish ancestry. A move to the Premier League would possibly improve his chances, especially given the level Liverpool seek to operate at going forward.

Arsenal and Liverpool track James Milner

James Milner’s sudden desire to leave Manchester City has put both Arsenal and Liverpool on alert, with both sides expressing an interest in the England international, according to The Times. His desire to move stems from him finding himself on the fringes of the first team this season, with Pellegrini favouring other players to him.

With UEFA tightening their restrictions on City next season, including a need for eight homegrown talents in their shrunken 21-man Champions League squad, City are not particularly keen to lose a player who has developed into an incredibly versatile asset in the City squad.

Liverpool have lacked a player of Milner’s style in midfield, and this was symbolised by the manner in which they were repeatedly overrun after the sending off and subsequent suspension of Jordan Henderson during their clash with City.

Milner will take part in England’s World Cup efforts this summer. He is highly rated by manager Roy Hodgson, but Hodgson would find Milner’s selection ahead of other players who’ve played more football criticised.

Liverpool target Pastore denies that he wants to move

@awinehouse1

Supposed Liverpool target Javier Pastore has come out and denied suggestions that he is looking to leave Paris Saint Germain ahead of the World Cup.

Pastore has had his opportunities limited somewhat this season by the good form of others in the squad, making only 12 appearances last season, but with PSG having secured a second consecutive league title, the Argentine clearly does not want to depart.

Speaking to Le 10 Sport, Pastore said: “It has not even gone through my head to leave.

“Here I can play and win titles, something that I have not yet managed to do elsewhere.

“[PSG] are also a great team, it would be very hard for me to leave.”

Pastore was part of the initial steps taken by PSG to establish themselves as a European force, signed from Palermo in 2011 for €39.8 million. He has since gone on to make 79 appearances for PSG during his three years at the club.

Liverpool have apparently targeted Pastore as an addition to their squad as they begin to build for their return to the Champions League.
