Arsenal Legend: New Arsenal Star Can Be The Next Thierry Henry

Arsenal great and former academy head Liam Brady has backed new £16 million signing Danny Welbeck to replicate the career path of former Arsenal goalscoring hero Thierry Henry, as reported by The Metro.

Henry joined Arsenal having spent time at AS Monaco and Juventus, but few could have predicted how his career would develop while he was in north London. He had primarily been used as a winger on the continent, but Arsene Wenger decided to mould him into a striker, and he went on to become arguably the greatest forward in the history of the Premier League thus far.

Welbeck is expected to make his Arsenal debut this weekend against last season’s Premier League winners Manchester City, having scored twice during the week for England.

Brady, who remains close to Wenger, feels that Arsenal have done some exceptional business in securing the former Manchester United man, and feels he could go on to be as great as Henry.

He said: “I’m delighted he’s signed for Arsenal.

“Arsene Wenger’s track record with young players is strong. Look at Henry – when he came to Arsenal he was rough around the edges and was playing on the wing, like Welbeck.

“It took Henry time but Wenger polished him into a fine finisher and he can do the same with Welbeck.”
