Man Utd To Bid £30m For Midfield Maestro – reports

Manchester United are set to push forward in their attempt to capture Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman in January.

The Old Trafford club are reportedly willing to offer up to £30 million to bring in the 24 year old in January rather than waiting until the summer, as reported by ESPN.

People at the club have reportedly been told that a January move for the player could be a real possibility.

News in the media had suggested that they might have to wait until the summer to sign the Dutch midfielder.

However, early elimination from the Champions League might mean that Roma lose one of their star players to the Red Devils.

Louis van Gaal is known to be a big fan of Strootman, and Man Utd have been consistently linked to him since Van Gaal took charge in the summer.

Van Gaal completely altered his tactical plan for the Netherlands ahead of the World Cup after Strootman suffered a long term injury.

His recovery could now take place in the Premier League, should Man Utd manage to push through the deal.

Chelsea To Make Shock £30m Bid For Man Utd Targeted Maestro – reports

Chelsea have surprisingly made a shock £30 million bid for Manchester United target Kevin Strootman in January.

The Old Trafford club have been tracking the Roma midfielder since the summer, with manager Louis van Gaal known to be a huge fan of the Dutch maestro.

Van Gaal and Strootman worked closely together while Van Gaal was in charge of the Netherlands, and Strootman’s injury shortly before the World Cup meant that the Dutch team completely altered their tactical setup.

It seemed certain that the 24 year old would, if he moved to the Premier League, join Man Utd, but it now seems as though Jose Mourinho is hopeful of beating his Premier League rivals to the punch.

As a result, the Portuguese manager has tabled a £30 million bid for the star.

This would provide Roma with a healthy profit on Strootman, who they paid £15 million for just last year.

This would be a particular bonus, given that Strootman has been injured for over six months.

Man Utd are, however, expected to top Chelsea’s offer in order to strengthen a squad that has been weakened by injury and suspensions, according to the Daily Express.

Man Utd Boost In Chase For Talented Midfielder – reports

Roma’s exit from the Champions League last night could hand Manchester United a massive boost in their chase for talented midfielder Kevin Strootman.

Strootman has been a long term target for the Old Trafford club, with Louis van Gaal particularly keen to bring him in during the summer.

However, a deal was never struck between the two sides, with Man Utd particularly reticent to spend significant sums on a player who had not proven his fitness.

However, Roma’s exit at the hands of Manchester City last night means that Strootman may look elsewhere to continue his return to fitness, with Man Utd the likely option, according to the Independent.

Van Gaal is known to be a considerable fan of Strootman.

He heavily involved him with his Netherlands side in the buildup to qualification for the summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

In fact, Strootman’s injury towards the end of last season saw Van Gaal completely rejig his formation ahead of the World Cup, switching to the 3-5-2 he has used to limited success at Man Utd.
