Mourinho: Courtois will return to Chelsea next season

Thibaut Courtois

Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Thibaut Courtois, considered to be one of the best goalkeepers in the world, will return to parent club Chelsea next season, according to BBC Sport.

Courtois has impressed over the last few seasons whilst playing for Atletico Madrid. Atletico reached the Champions League final and won La Liga last season with Courtois in net, and many have called for his inclusion at Chelsea next season, in spite of the generally good form of current first choice Petr Cech.

Mourinho has finally confirmed that Courtois will return, something that should be seen as a positive by most Chelsea fans. There is little that he still has to work on, a commanding figure both between the sticks and in the penalty area, possibly in a manner that Cech has not been since his infamous cranial injury.

Chelsea will be looking to improve on their performance last year, which saw them finish the season trophy-less and in third place.

Speaking to La Gazetta dello Sport, Samuel Eto’o has launched a sensational attack on his now former manager Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho has spent much of the season criticising Chelsea’s striking options, and the man he brought in last summer has bore the brunt of Mourinho’s criticisms. At one point, Mourinho referred to the player as “32, maybe 35 years old”, suggesting he is older than officially published.

In his interview, Eto’o referred to Mourinho as “the idiot who called me old”, before saying that this year “the old one has maybe better than some of the young ones”.

Eto’o also said: “I’m 33 years old, not 35.

“I want to play in this year’s World Cup and the next one too, when I am 37.

“Some people think I’m going to America to retire after this, but I have rediscovered the joy of playing in the Champions League and want to continue playing in it.

“I will continue to play because mentally and physically I feel great.”

Eto’o scored 12 goals in 30 games this season, including a hat-trick against Manchester United.
