Man Utd Defender Expects 19-Year-Old Starlet To Shine

Manchester United defender Chris Smalling has stated that he expects striker James Wilson to make a big impact on the first team in the near future, as originally reported by ManUtd.com.

The young striker made his debut for the Red Devils last season under caretaker manager Ryan Giggs, and scored two goals on his debut, as the Old Trafford club managed a 3-1 win against Hull City.

That initial form suggested there was more to come from Wilson, who has made nine appearances in the league this season under Louis van Gaal, starting many of those games.

However, Wilson has not continued his goalscoring form this season, and Radamel Falcao is likely to supplant him in the first team heading into the second half of the season.

Chris Smalling believes that more will come from him soon, however, having told the club’s official website that he believes Wilson has been putting in the effort in training.

When asked about the best player in training, he said: “I’d say James Wilson.

“He’s such a threat in terms of he’s always looking to run in behind.

“He is very quick and his finishing, while I wouldn’t say it’s surprised me, it’s just the consistency and how hard he strikes the ball and how well too.

“He’s been very good for a lot of this season in training and I think it’s only a matter of time before we really see him make a big impact.”

New Pogbas: Man Utd Fear Losing SIX Starlets In 2015 On Free Transfers

Manchester United are fearful over the futures of six of their brightest young talents, echoing the situation that saw Paul Pogba join Juventus on a free transfer two summers ago.

A series of six of their hottest young prospects could depart the club for nothing next summer, putting them on red alert.

Pogba departed, having not been given enough opportunities by Alex Ferguson, but by contrast, three of those who could leave have played key roles for Man Utd under Louis van Gaal this season.

James Wilson, 19, has played a significant amount of football for Van Gaal, and has been keeping Radamel Falcao out of the first team, showing his quality.

Both Tyler Blackett and Paddy McNair, 20 and 19 respectively, have covered in defence as injuries have caused problems to Man Utd’s preferred players.

Jesse Lingard, a talented winger, was involved with Man Utd’s first team during pre season.

Reece James and Andreas Perreira are also considered to be hot projects for the future.

However, Man Utd now face a difficult task convincing all six to commit their futures, with the players able to discuss deals with other clubs from January 1 2015.
