Barcelona star Gerard Pique is set for showdown talks with the Catalan club’s hierarchy over the next few days, with his future at the club in severe doubt, as reported by the Daily Star.
New manager Luis Enrique has involved him infrequently since the start of the new campaign, and Pique has only begun seven of the club’s 15 games since the season kicked off, a staggering fall for a player considered to be an integral part of Barca’s side.
Pique’s relationship with Enrique is apparently nonexistent, according to reports emerging from Spain, and it is becoming more strained the less that the former Manchester United man plays.
Club officials intend to try and ensure peace between player and club in the near future, but it might already be too late.
Both Chelsea and Man Utd are known to be lining up a bid for the 27 year old defender, who has been valued at around £24 million by Barca.
Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas is said to be on the cusp of being set on Barcelona defender Gerard Pique, with the intention of convincing the player that a move to Stamford Bridge in the near future would be to his benefit, as reported by fichajes.net.
Pique is reportedly unhappy with life at Barcelona, having been dropped from the first team at the weekend.
He was therefore sat on the bench as the Catalan club fell to a 1-0 loss against Celta Vigo, their first ever at the Nou Camp.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has apparently identified Pique as the ideal man to bolster his defence in January.
However, Man Utd are apparently also interested in his signature, and could convince the Spain star to return to Old Trafford.
This means that Mourinho will return to his summer signing.
He believes that the link between Pique and Fabregas, who played in the same team at La Masia, would convince Pique to make the switch.
Barcelona star Gerard Pique is genuinely considering a departure from the Catalan giants in the near future, with the Premier League a possible destination, as reported by fichajes.net.
This should put both Manchester United and Chelsea on red alert, with both sides having expressed an interest in the elegant defender in the recent past.
The Spain international was dropped for the clash against Celta at the weekend, a game which was only Barca’s second ever loss at home against their La Liga rivals.
This seems to have finally broken Pique’s resistance to a possible move elsewhere in the world, having previously denied that he had any interest in a switch to another side.
However, Pique could get an opportunity to play in the Champions League this week, given the injury to Mathieu.
This could allow him to cement his place in the side again, and scupper any potential move elsewhere, such as to Chelsea or Man Utd.
