Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale has denied having any interest in making a move to Manchester United in the summer, dealing a blow to Louis van Gaal’s side.
The Old Trafford club have heavily chased the Welsh forward since last summer, when David Moyes was pipped to his signature by the Spanish giants, despite the fact that Man Utd offered significantly more money.
The deal was already too far down the line for Bale’s destination to change.
There was a belief at Old Trafford that Bale could be tempted to return back to the Premier League with Man Utd.
As a result, they were lining up a £120 million move to sign him, a world transfer record breaking fee.
However, Bale himself has denied any interest in the switch, handing a boost to Real fans, who have seen him play an integral role in a period of success since his move from Spurs.
Bale said to Spanish paper Marca: “Manchester United? I’m happy in Madrid. I love the city, the weather and the club. I’m eager to win more silverware here.
“I have a contract with Real Madrid until 2019 and could remain for more years after the end of it.”
Real Madrid are set to demand the signature of Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea as part of any transfer involving the Welsh wizard Gareth Bale back to the Premier League.
Louis van Gaal’s side are believed to be very keen on signing Bale in the summer, and are hopeful of securing a move for around £120 million.
Real are thought to be open to a deal – while Bale has been excellent since his arrival in Spain, they would rather lose him than Cristiano Ronaldo.
However, The Mirror are claiming that Real will not let Bale leave unless they can secure one of their preferred targets in return – Man Utd goalkeeper De Gea.
The Spanish giants are thought to be looking into a £40 million move for De Gea, which Man Utd have tried to block by offering him a stunning new deal.
Now they could demand his inclusion in any deal as an attempt to get their target.
Manchester United fans have grown accustomed to being linked with Real Madrid star Gareth Bale over the last few weeks, and reports last night suggested that an agreement has taken place between the player and the Old Trafford club.
However, Sky Sports’ La Liga expert Terry Gibson believes that the move does not make much sense.
In fact, Gibson is of the opinion that the links could just be there in an attempt to improve Man Utd’s reputation going into the January transfer window.
The suggestion that they could buy Bale would convince other players about the calibre of player that they could potentially be playing with.
“It doesn’t really add up,” Gibson told the talkSPORT Sports Bar.
“I look at Manchester United, is he the player they need? Of course he is one of the best players in the world and he is going to get better, but he’s not what Manchester United need. I know it’s a big game but they’ve got big names in attacking positions. Angel di Maria hasn’t long been signed. It’s a strange one.
“Perhaps it suits Manchester United to be linked with that type of player. It certainly doesn’t do any harm to make it look like they’re trying [to sign players of that calibre].”
Man Utd face off against Newcastle on Boxing Day.
The Manchester side have only not won one of the last seven games they have played.
By contrast, Alan Pardew’s Newcastle have lost their last three games, including a difficult derby loss against Sunderland at the weekend.
