Man Utd Eye Up 22 Year Old Elegant Defender – reports

Manchester United are lining up a January move for FC Basel defender Fabian Schar, as reported by the Daily Mirror.

Louis van Gaal has reportedly identified central defence as the biggest problem in his side.

This is understandable, given their recent games have seen them turn to the likes of Paddy McNair and Michael Carrick to cover in the middle of the defensive units, as Man Utd have been so hamstrung by injury and suspension to their preferred players.

This means that the Red Devils are set to bid for a defender in January, with the club also targeting the likes of Mats Hummels and Bruno Martins Indi.

Schar has, however, emerged as the most realistic option for the winter window.

The 22 year old has been capped nine times by his national side, incredible given his young age, and has played 56 times for FC Basel since his transfer from FC Wil in 2012.

Arsenal Given Gigantic BOOST In Move For £10m Defender

Arsenal have been handed huge encouragement in their chase for Basel defender Fabian Schar, after the defender suggested that he was keen to depart the Swiss side in the future to move to a top side, as reported by the Daily Express.

The 22 year old internationally capped Swiss defender has been regularly tied to a possible switch to the Emirates Stadium, but other sides have also been sniffing around the player, suggesting that he is likely to make a move in the future.

Schar has been given a £10 million price tag by Basel in the past, and he has now suggested that he is open to a move to the Premier League, the Bundesliga, or one of the best clubs in Serie A, like Inter, AC Milan or Juventus.

He told Blick: “Basel are open to negotiations, but at this moment I have decided that I want to concentrate on my performances.

“I went through a difficult period and it wasn’t the right time to discuss my renewal. I don’t want to be worrying about that now.

“My dream remains to have an experience abroad. I’ve always said that if the opportunity presented itself, I would take it, obviously in agreement with Basel.

“I need a team with important prospects. I’d like the Bundesliga, Premier League or top Italian clubs like Inter, Milan and Juventus. I couldn’t say no.

“I want to hear all my options and consider them carefully. There was some contact in the summer, but nothing serious.”

Arsenal could therefore be ideally placed to make a move for the player in January, should they choose to follow up their interest.

Arsenal And Spurs Chase 22-Year-Old Elegant International Defender

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are said to be chasing Switzerland international centre back Fabian Schar, as reported by the Daily Star.

Schar has impressed over the last two seasons since signing for FC Basel. He began his career at FC Wil 1900, who he played 52 games for after making his debut for the first team towards the end of 2009, at the age of only 18 years old.

The defender has gone on to make his debut for the Swiss international side, and has earned eight caps for the national side since 2013.

He also went to Brazil with Switzerland this summer, playing at the World Cup. The 22 year old played a big role as the team managed a clean sheet in their third game, which they won 3-0.

Arsenal and Spurs have had different results this weekend. Despite criticism, Arsenal won 3-0 against Aston Villa, while Spurs slumped to a 1-0 loss against West Brom at home.
